  The big difference between this and most sub £400 Laptops is that it is not Integrated Graphics but has ATI Radeon™ HD 4200 which produces HDMI output, great for judder free movies!
  

  
  
  Radeon HD 4200 is part of the 785G chipset. It's integrated into the board. The HDMI output doesn't affect smoothness of video playback but the integrated decoders do.

  I need a laptop for my daughters birthday. She loves The Sims 3 which is resource hungry and also fussy about graphics cards. Does anybody know if this would do the job?
  Although this graphics card isn't listed, is it capable?:-

  CPUs are comparable, as is the memory and display size&resolution.
  The HP has twice as much HDD space, and a graphics card that is 3 to 5 times faster.
  Only negatives are the £50 greater cost, and Vista rather than Windows 7 :S

  Not sure. If you have a look at this link in the last column they give frame rates from Sims 3. The graphics cards/chips are listed in approximate descending order of speed and anything 30+ is generally considered playable, while 60+ is really smooth. The 4200 is about two-thirds down the list. They don't appear to have tested the 4200 with The Sims 3, but the chip immediately under it would make the game playable on medium settings, so my guess would be that the 4200 in this deal would too.

  The only problem with the 4200 is that it uses shared graphics memory, which will slow it down and also take a chunk out of your RAM. Probably fine for most apps/games though.
