Shame it's a DSG company, but hey, it's cheap enough!

I am guessing that Compaq (HP) don't look favourably on opening the case up and upgrading stuff without voiding the warranty though? If so, I would go for the Dell.

No, as I have pointed out MANY times on here

I picked up the Dell last week as some wally had left a wrong POS on the shelf edge stating a free upgrade from the 19" LG monitor to a 20" Dell one. I got the Dell one after much faffing about but the Lg monitor looks alot nicer. Fantastic machine although it is only 32bit which the guy couldn't explain to me without looking on the system spec. Then tried to tell me it was a gaming machine hence the 4gb of RAM mmmm they need better training in PCWorld

have you got a link to a similar one on dell then nichaj ?
Im asking because i will be looking for one in a few weeks ,shopping around and looking just now.

ps.minus the montior because i use an lcd tv

Voting cold

for 4 reasons.

1)
2) Its very expensive for what you actually get.
3) @ £450 i expect a lot and i mean alot more than intergrated graphics
4) monitor is ony VGA, at least DVI should be standard by now.

i would deffo say better deals with mid range graphics for around £350 are about, £100 will get you a better Digital Monitor.

Same, plus - it's Dixons - so if anything goes wrong, you are screwed.

I agree monitors are cheap enough, and everywhere, but where are the 350 quid Quad core machines with dedicated graphics?

I can find a Dell for £429, or one with less RAM for under just 400, but there isn't exactly a long list at 350 quid!

Well, seeing as Hatori hasn't come up with anything to back up his claim, MikeT in THIS deal has....
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/503168/dell-inspiron-desktop-base-amd-phen

Bit light on RAM, but that's easy enough to remedy at minimum cost.

Getting cold votes for some reason, no idea why, as there certainly aren't masses of such deals around!

The processor is inferior, less RAM, less HDD space, vista basic but the graphics card is better than the Intel in the two pcs above. Me being an AMD fan boy i voted it hot.

Well, it probably is inferior, but as I said "where are the Quad core machines for 350 quid", and the silence from the poster was DEAFENING, as usual with such claims... this looks about as good as they get

I made an error the dell pc has a phenom II 810 not a phenom 1 stated by dell. after some googling the intel and amd chips are very similar in performance the AMD being a new cpu beats in a few more tests http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Ha...x4_810/15.html even so i still think this compaq and dell from pcworld is a better deal but the dell machine from MikeT is a good deal for those angry pcworld customers.
