It's been posted before, but it's cheaper and still holds its own against newer netbooks with their smaller screens and Intel shared graphics.

Operating system: Genuine Windows® XP Home Service Pack 3 (32-bit)
Intel Atom Processor N270
1.60 GHz, Level 2 cache 512 KB
1024 MB (1 x 1024 MB) RAM
160 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive 5400 rpm
11.6” Diagonal HD LED BrightView Widescreen Display, Resolution: 1366 x 768
NVIDIA ION LE

With patches from http://myhpmini.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=2898 the ION LE can be unlocked to a full ION, which is nice. Add in one of the modified BIOS and the processor can go up to around 2.0GHz. Not bad.

Don't forget 5% Quidco at the moment.

I bought this Netbook, put an additional 2gb RAM in there. However 1080 youtube videos still lag. Anyone know whats the problem?
#4
I bought one of those from Expansys a few weeks ago and I' m really pleased with it, but it's been this price for ages.
#5

Ok, cheers for that!
#6
How much will it cost to mod to that spec? I'm looking for a new netbook

good price for an ion netbook.

I bought one of these from amazon a month or so ago. Upgraded the RAM to 3GB and swapped the hard drive for a 500GB one. It's a brilliant machine and has a huge modding community behind it. They overclock pretty well too if you're into that kind of thing.

Mine runs Bioshock and Half Life 2 with no problems at medium settings. It plays 1080P video flawlessly through the HDMI port which is useful when I'm working away from home for watching films on hotel TV's. You won't get a more powerful netbook for the price.
#10
Won't upgrading invalidate the warranty?
#11
Not if it's basic stuff like RAM or a hard drive. They're user replaceable.

That link is for the new NG-ION chipset. This netbook has the original ION chips which have perfectly good drivers for smooth 1080p playback.

noob question...i hav never had a note book but tempted...how would you go about getting this connected to a router, dont you need to run a set up disc to connect to a wireless router? just askin as this doesnt hav an optical drive...many thanks...

It runs Bioshock?! at what res? And what sort of FPS do you get with that? If you could run some sort of benchmark I'd be interested to see the results

I would get the 311c-1101SA model, its £251.97 at ebuyer.
Has wireless n and a faster 7200rpm HDD, I think thats worth £12 to me!

If the wireless router is already up and running (i.e. setup by your ISP [Internet Service Provider[) then all you gotta do is follow the Windows options to connect to the internet or connect to a wireless network. Search Google for help or Youtube for video tutorials. 8)

Good price if you want something bigger than standard 10"

Native res (1368x768), medium settings give 30fps which occasionally drops to around 22 in big battles.

I've been after one of these for ages, but it's taken nearly 6 months for the price to drop by just £10. With all the dual core netbooks available now, this should be nearer the £200 mark. Or it should at least come with Windows 7 or the built-in 3g modem.

I'm not slating the deal - this is the cheapest you'll find it. I just don't get why it isn't cheaper.
#22
The ION graphics and the Atom with 11" screen. Intel changed the licensing agreements for the Atoms so they can't be used in machines with screens larger than 10" any more.
#23
I think the Nvdia Ion plus 11" Screen and the all important 1366 x 768 resolution, which no other netbooks are able to offer is the key here. That alone make this a clear winner.

I bought an Asus 1005hp seashell netbooks...its beautiful and well designed keboard and N wireless and all the rest. But the resolution is 1020 x 600 which is a show spoiler. Even standard website you have to scroll to the side to view it properly. I had to return it.

It's a full Ion that has been downgraded to an Ion LE in the BIOS settings and mine plays HD iPlayer content without any problems.

I bought the Mini 311c. It's getting delivered tomorrow. I bought an EeePC 701 as soon as it was released, but found the screen resolution too limiting, and waited for the Ion-based netbooks. I was also waiting for one with a dual-core Atom (an N450 or something) but then Intel changed the licensing so I'm not going to get one with an 11" screen.

I view spending £60 to get a netbook that would normally cost upwards of £379 (Dell Inspiron M101z which has the AMD Neo, performing somewhere around the Atom but using more power and runs hotter) as a decent upgrade.

It depends what sort of a user you are, and what you want to use the machine for.

DO NOT USE THIS SITE. I was going to post the deal from that site but after a bit of research i've completely avoided it. They let you carry out the transaction as normal, but soon after, decline the transaction and sell on your card details and personal information. Also stated by mr.velvet, nothing adds up on the site and theres no real way of contacting them.

Don't buy HP or Compaq laptops!
I've just had my second HP DV6000 series fail.
I will never, ever buy an HP laptop again!

Google! (e.g. https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=windows+7+usb )

You just need a Windows 7 disk image and the Microsoft USB tool.

Walkthrough for USB tool: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-create-bootable-windows-7-usb-to-install-windows-7-from-usb-flash-drive-using-windows-7-dvdusb-tool/

Again, use Google if you don't have a tool to create an ISO image from your Windows 7 disk. Otherwise, if you don't want to make an ISO use this guide: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-install-windows-7vista-from-usb-drive-detailed-100-working-guide/

You'll need a 4GB stick (it's a DVD image, after all).
