That is a good price for a C60 with W7! This is a very good laptop, never mind the ppl's hang-up about the AMD processor, it will do everything you want just fine as long as you don't expect games machine performance.

Isn't there a delivery charge as well?
#2
its a 250gb HD, not the 160gb advertised in the title

Hot deal!
#3
160GB or 250GB?

If 250GB then very good deal

I wonder how the cpu compares with a dual core intel t2390 for example
#6
Ordered one for my Mum delivered to store to save postage - heat and rep well deserved :-D
#7
tesco's title for the item says windows 7 home premium but their description says windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

I wonder which version of the os it really has. Does anyone on this forum know?
#8
Operating System Microsoft Windows® 7 Ultimate 64 bit????????? Mistyping again????
#9
Can anyone confirm that this is a dual-core as per the listing also what RAM it would have??
#10
On Sainsbury's website, the description states "Windows® 7 Home Premium".

However, although they share the same model number, tesco's one seems to have a 250GB hard drive instead of 160GB, so maybe there's still a possibility it might have windows 7 ultimate?
#11
any tesco direct voucher ????

prob no so well, it's a single core with hyper threading compared to having two physical cores

I have both and I can tell you there is no difference in speed. The only difference I notice is that my t2390 copies faster but this is do to the OS and not the cpu (I'm using XP on the t2390).

Just ordered, dont forget quidco, thanks for the find.

Get rid of Remote Differential Compression in Vista and WIndows 7 (Control Panel/Programs & Files/Windows Features) to sort that problem out

good price.

Whats the memory it says ddr2

I find this site helpful when comparing processor performance http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html

I ordered this for my niece on Sunday - she wanted a laptop with Windows 7 and a webcam for under £300, and I found this. Thought it was an ok deal. Picking up tomorrow, will post actual specs when I find out what they are. I know for sure the processor is single core, not dual as the description states. I'd expect it to come with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit as this is what my parents higher spec model came with.

I'll also comment on how the 2GHz single core, 2Gb machine compares to the 2.2GHz dual core, 3 Gb machine. I wouldn't have thought there'd be a lot in it for normal use.

Thanks for the pointer. I've just disabled this feature on my Vista laptop. I've noticed basic copying of files is ridiculously slow compared to much older XP machines. Hopefully this will solve that. Cheers.
#22
It's a single core chip ... you can see this by comparing the M100 to one of the better processors on AMD's site, right here :

while the price is good voted cold becuase HPs compaqs included are the worst laptops for quality and the company refuses to acknowlege valid in warranty claims, so people please steer clear of compaqs and hps
#24
Nice, too bad I'm skint.
#25
It's a Sempron cpu, which replaced the Durons. These are very low end cpus, I'd spend an extra £50 and buy something better tbh.

We have three Compaq laptops in the family, and this will be the fourth. Nothing wrong with them in my opinion.
#27
Can anyone advise, is this Compaq worth the extra money?

Compaq Presario CQ61-225SA 15.6 inch Notebook (Intel Pentium Processor T4200, 4 GB RAM, 250GB SATA HDD, NVIDIA GeForce G 103M, Vista Home Premium) ........£455 at amazon?

I would agree with this. Sempron are pretty poor AMD processors. Even a Dual Core Celeron would be better in most cases!

Thats utter rubbish. I have 4 Compaq/HP Laptops at home and wouldnt buy anything else now. Much much better than the Dells and Toshibas etc. Not as good as the Vaios but nowhere near the price.
#34
Ive seen Tesco putting up a 250gb version of this for the same price with Windows 7
Hang on - seen 250gb listed here, headline says 160gb.
Battery life doesn't seem great.

Speak as you find of course, but I've found Vaio's to be overpriced, underperforming tripe.
#36
There is a serious lack of benchmark information on the Sempron M100; though i'd expect it to perform roughly the same as the Sempron SI-40. The only difference I can see from a stats. point of view, is that the M100 is a 45 nm manufacture process rather than the older 65nm found in the SI-40.

As such, it'll be fairly useless for anything cpu intensive.
The SI-40 is only about 30% faster than the Intel Atom N270/280 (cpu found in almost all netbooks)

Unless the accompanying 8200M G is capable of accelerating h.264, vc-1 & mpeg2 you may find the machine incapable of playing high bitrate 1080p content.

Fair price for an entry level machine; but i'd be inclined to spend £100 more to get a much more capable cpu & gpu.

I have one of these... you will be lucky to get 2 hours with wifi and all the other stuff on

I'd stay away from this.
I've had nothing but trouble with my Compaq laptop. Barely even used and it got a bad error, wouldn't turn on and needed a new hard drive. I've also had constant errors even since it got 'fixed'... it also overheats easily due to the placement of the vents. I'm not buying one of theirs again.

Point taken, I like the "touch and feel" of Vaios. But they are very very expensive.
