Thanks for the info

Good price for the specs it is - although it wont be the most portable due to being a 15.6" screen.

BluRay? Hot.

BluRay? Hot.

Nope no bluray in it, that would be hotter than hot then.

I know a bit but I'm not a huge tech wiz....I stay well clear of AMD processors just because I just find the specs a bit confusing as opposed to Intels (i.e. it has 2 cores and it runs at 2.1GHz etc etc)...how can I decipher the actual spec of an AMD processor because as far as I can see you end up paying a brand premium for intel processors.

Its not really any different from Intels - if it has 2 cores running at 2.1Ghz, then that is no different from an intel dualcore CPU running at 2.1Ghz.

There used to be confusion because AMD used to label their processors as say a 2600+ when it only ran at 2.2Ghz, but that was because they used to be equivalent (ie as quick) as the 2.6Ghz offering from Intel.

This is no longer the case as far as I am aware.

Compaq specs state: Lightscribe DVD writer (not HD or Blu-ray) 250gb hdd. Buy it and check it out. If it's Blu-ray you got a bargain, if not it's still not bad but you could return it because it's wrongly advertised.

I have the same laptop and I love it.

The same way. Most places would state dual or single core for AMD as well.

This is sempron so single core running at 2GHz.

For AMD - Sempron = single core, athlon/turion = dual core, phenom = triple or quad core.

Specs dont say anywhere that it comes with a bluray drive - only that it would be compatible with one.

Tazx,
Downloading has nothing to do with the speed of your computer. It's the Internet connection which matters.

compatible would mean it can read Blu-ray, what else does it mean?

Its annoying shop speak for - if you had a bluray drive and installed it this machine would be able to use it, same as for the HD Drive.

Yes he's correct, but it's misleading. It because the GPU supports NVIDIA PureVideo HD.

thanks dude, very helpful! that's what I meant....didn't know how to identify how many cores it had on an AMD. thanks

I am looking for a laptop (not a netbook) for less than £300. 160GB was enough for me. don't want to pay Tesco an extra £30 just for little extra HD space.
