I spotted this link whilst browsing the Love film web site and I found this page where you can specifiy how many discs you believe you are missing due to the postal strike.

They will consider compensation in the future which I guess will mean that they will send you some extra discs.

I do not remember being emailed with regards to this link so if you are a member and you do not click on the site much then the chances are you might not have known about it.

Anyway this is worth a try, I do not know about anyone else but I have not received any discs from Love film or block buster for ages now so I know I am due some extra discs at least.

Nice spot :)
#2
Thanks, also says the same on Tesco Rental
#3
I don't think they mean missing discs, but discs you would of normally got, therefore couldn't watch send back and get another....like missed opportunity...
#4
I haven't had any new disc for ages. I was tempted to ask for my money back, then I realised I haven't paid Lovefilm anything since Star Wars was released !!!

Don't you love those free trials.
#5
Cheers for the post - hardly surprising that Lovefilm (sorry, LOVEFiLM) haven't announced this more fully; their customer service has been terrible for the last couple of years.
#6
Bloody posties in my area are still on unofficial strike 2 days after the official one ended , sack the bloody lot of them I say because they are lawbreakers who don't deserve sod all the way they are holding the company & public to ransom .
#7
I myself prefer blockbuster online rentals , even if I believe their selection is not as good as lovefilm.

Myself and a friend have bench marked the disc turn arround times of blockbuster vs lovefilm and for us both blockbuster was faster everytime.

Nice one

Hang about!

Are you saying if the postie normally loses a disc, you get billed?

No, you don't. But if you report too many too often (more than one would be a bit fishy in the same year) they can cancel your account or might give you a ring..

My Last 3 were sent Tuesday Week ago - and arrived Tuesday this week. They were returned same day.

So far they are not showing as received.

Just entered a claim on that link for 12 discs "missed".

Its still annoying. I always get them sent back same day to maximise!

I did that too when I did the whole free rental thing, I seem to go through spurts of them lol some seasons I do loads of trials others none... HardDrive gets full fast though...

Since they send them out in 3s in the same envelope and go back the same, I'd say suggesting 1 go missing was more fishy!!! :giggle:

Oh yer I 4got about that... My last trial was around the time they were just introducing this so forgive me, my fondest memories of free films was when no-one cared about paper!

My post arrives around 11am and last post out of local box is 4.30pm so going on that how do you manage to watch 3 films in 5 1/2 hours? I really cant imagine :whistling:

Just dont do what some idiot I know (no not me im daft but NOT stupid) he used to rent dvd's from the library as it was only a 10minute walk away and return them less than an hour later and he used to rent two or three at a time! He was then surprised to get a knock at the door, ban from the library and a court case!

Hang on i dont quite get that...he got banned from the library for renting dvds and returning them quickly! Surely thats a good thing for the library (so theres better availability), also more money if they charge for rentals like mine does/used to do (havnt been in for years!)

Stupid person though, clearly has way to much free time!

Well, wouldn;t it just be time shifting anyway (hypothetically)?
lol TBH 3months with 3disks at a time, *If I were* to copy them all I don't have the time to watch them all...
A close friend of mine did these free trials with games which is of course much more money-saving. (Not me. not me. not me. are there polis watching these?)

He was returning them so fast that he couldn't have possibly been watching them probably just enough time to rip them which only takes a few minutes per disc unless decryption and transcoding gets involved then it takes a bit longer I'd imagine

If there are any police watching perhaps they should pay Love Film a surprise visit. Funny the way they failed to send me a reply other than the standard "Faulty disc" email to the umpteen emails I've sent them over it. Even when I sent them one asking if I should return it to them or the local jarn darme as Del Boy might put it:giggle:

As in, do I make a DVD copy?

No. Though obviously easy enough if I wanted to. Just useful to watch when I want to.

To be fair, Ive only had this membership for about 3 weeks - but already stuff has been deleted.

No as in do you copy them onto your hard drive :w00t:

Agree entirely. Glorified paperboys who didn't even do the job well when they were doing it. Now we're supposed to pay for them whilst they have a holiday?

Perhaps us glorified "paperboys" should stop delivering your dvds and let you drive to the local video shop or perhaps you could set up your own post buisness delivering mail for 32p in all weathers and all areas including the dodgy ones you wouldnt visit on a dark night:)
oh by the way that holiday just cost our house a weeks wages just because we want to work for a decent employer not a bunch of bullys who work when they want for stupid amounts of money

I always say the same whenever people strike, if you don't like your job get a different one. Holding businesses to random is never the answer.
#28
ah so your saying when you go to work next and your boss says stuff your famliy your changing shifts and cutting your pension because we want to you will be handing in your notice
#29
I was with Lovefilm but got fedup with the strikes so I cancelled it last week and got Sky Movies instead for the same price and now I don't have to wait for the post, But I miss being able to get the games.

Whereas holding people's lielyhood to ransom is fine in your book?
The problem here is that the strike is ultimately a waste of time, Royal Mail has to deliver everywhere for the same price but private companies can pick and choose. The result is that step by step the private companies will pick off the cheapest deliveries forcing the average cost of a stamp upwards, then pick up the deliveries below the new average and so on. Give it a few more years and Royal Mail will be dead whatever they pay their staff, after that cheap junk mail will flood our letter boxes and the fact that it no longer subsidises our postage costs means you'll be looking at paying £1 to send a letter anywhere outside of London.

If you can't stick up for yourself then you might as well just give up life, I bet you don't work pinkleponkle, ever had a job ? and just sponge off us workers paying tax!!

Any strike that affects you then its a bit of a pain but on this occasion it is down to the Government

Look mate, I don't give a **** what your conditions are! When I purchase something from a company I'm only interested in the end result, not how this is acheived, with the exception of human well being, animal cruetly etc etc but your surely not telling me the average posties situation compares...

Unfortunatly in this case your striking does effect people like me. I can choose to post via another company but I can't stop people sending me stuff via royal mail. So what happens? Its the public that looses out. Sure a few people will miss some eBay items - annonying but you know this is royal mail... but what about those waiting on important hosipital appointment cards, cheques to pay bills etc. Oh yeah we're supposed to ring the senders and make other arrangements so you can avoid working in the cold weather, leave early when your job is done and whatever else your moaning about - give me a break!

hi there,

I sent 3 disks back on the 3rd of october (the day before the postal ban started)

Its showing up as not returning on their system. Just wondering if anyone else has had that problem? ive reported the disks as lost and they've sent a mail saying that they are sending out a form of some kind.

Do you think its a delayed problem with the post or are they most likely lost ?
banned#34
The last time LF compensated me they upgraded my account from 3 disc at a time to 4 disc at a time.

The upgrade lasted for 2 weeks and gave me one extra rental. Mind you the turnaround was so bad I don't think it improved my service at all.
#35
I Sent Back 3 On 3rd October Too And They Were All Wii Games So I Hope They Dont Expect Me To Pay For Them Coz Of The Royal Mails Errors
Everyone Should Change To Dhl And Let Them Hold The Majority Stake...hoooo Rahhhhh!!!!

Ther are plenty of companies that take high volumes of mail cheaper than RM. I am thinking about starting my own little business with mobile postboxes @ just 25p next day envelopes and then giving the post to one of those guys who uses RM to do the last mile delivery.

ANyone wanting to get round these bums who are now on illegal strikes use http://www.thedx.co.uk/ they are faster than RM and cheaper too! (inc letters)

I do symapathise with the postal workers to some degree BUT the current unofficial strike action is breaking the law & therefore you are in contempt . You should either return to work as requested by your own union or be sacked , no ifs or buts about it . Immigrant workers will soon be filling your boots because the general public is sick to the back teeth of this unofficial action & will be demanding changes quickly . You are looking for sympathy from people , all you are doing is alienating yourselves due to your selfish lawbreaking actions .

You have to contact them and they will tell you all you need to know (You need to set up an account a bit like UPS).

The DX are the only ones I know of that will deliver the odd letter for you. But you have to find a 'post-box' which are usually inside buildings that they collect from like soliciters offices etc so by the time you take the time to post it its hardly worth the 10p you saved.

DHL are also much cheaper (and Door to door too) for heavy parcels than RM are. Parceltogo.com have some offers on at them moment I think to tempt people during the unstable period in the regular GPO

http://www.psc.gov.uk/about-the-mail-market.html
Theres a bunch listed there that might help, but they are mainly for people who send a fair amount of post.
Hence why I thought I could make a few bob inventing portable mail boxes and just re-posting the letters I have chaged 30p/letter and pay just 20p/letter for ANC to deliver! But obviously would need a lot of letters!

Just had the following email from Tesco Rental

Thank you for letting us know how you have been affected by the recent Royal Mail strikes. It has been the biggest disruption to the postal service since online DVD rental began. We have been doing everything to minimize the effect on your service and are really sorry you have missed out.

We would like to make it up to you, so in addition to giving you back the discs you have missed out on over this period, we are also crediting your account with a FREE week, which will take effect by Sunday, 28th October.

Look out for your replacement discs over the next few weeks.

We hope this makes up for any inconvenience you might have suffered due to the latest postal strikes, and we will continue to offer you the very best DVD rental service.

Best wishes,
The tescodvdrental.com Team.
