Component Tester, ESR Meter Boxed :-) Later firmware £14.82 delivered @ Banggood.com

£14.82 @ BangGood
It seems to be a later version of the project by Karl-Heinz Kubbeler et Al with a pluggable ZIF socket and clips and a decent case. Apparently not suitable for in circuit testing of ESR. Read More

I have a slightly earlier version of this although I bought it as a kit to build. Great bit of equipment to have around if you like tinkering.

Is it really that much better than the £5 uncased ones on ebay:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152116407312

i suppose not really, I did find one with a diy case for around 8 quid. although I like the colour ones as the screen layout seems better to me

From scratch? That's hard :)

I've seen the kit, the kits are always hit or miss and fault finding can be a pain.

A good review by an idiot!
Apparently, amongst other things, he doesn't know how to use a ziff socket and he doesn't realise you sometimes need to recalibrate these things, and he mumbles for ten minutes!

I wish Julian did a review!

He has done one on this or an earlier model. That's what got me to build mine. I had bought it a fair while earlier but it was just in the to-do pile.

(Julian must be some youtube reviewer)
Arduino seem to do a nice kit with non surface mount components and a properly printed circuit board, and of course it's more expensive than many of the Chinese ready made copies.

Yes, Jullian Ilett he does reviews on these sorts of things, plus lots of other diy electronics stuff, a bit like the thinking man's Big Clive.

Well sorry I was wrong Arduino don't make a kit AFAICT. I did quite a bit of research before posting my 'deal', I rejected kits, but saw them of course, I think maybe this was one of the ones I saw. There is a reference there to Arduino but that's all! Hiland seem to be a Chinese kit manufacturing company
