Rats.

Only if you put cooked things on it, or meat. Otherwise the rats'll stay away.

From the link there you may be entitled to have one delivered free from "Recycle Now" - Check with your postcode.

But the deal here is HOT too if you are cutting the grass/hedge tomorrow - and need one without waiting a week for delivery.

Recyclenow does not have a scheme in my area. Monmouthshire has it's own scheme, where you can get a compost bin from as little as a fiver - here's a pdf of the leaflet

Woah, quite a difference, the first two are only £3 and £5 respectively in my area.

I have never had rats in my compost bin. Slugs yes but not rats. I think the secret is that you make sure there is plenty of air getting to it and only put in the correct ingredients (ie: no meat or animal products or cooked vegetables).

See some of the many sites online such as this one that give advice on this. And if you are still worried, get a cat! :-) And that is probably another big reason I dont get rats in my compost bin! :-)
