This is from an existing old post but I realized that some compost bins are now half the price they were in Scotland 4 month ago and come with a FREE Mini caddy: special offer.

My friend a council worker told me that this is the end of the year and that most councils need to get rid of the stocks before new year so prices are going down.

FROM ORIGINAL POST:

ENTER YOUR POSTCODE AND YOUR COUNCIL MAY SUPPLY & DELIVER ONE FREE - NEW PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN ADDED SINCE ORIGINAL POST

This was posted 15 months ago - but now with the increasing amounts councils are paying in landfill tax - many have decided to offer these free. Even if you need to pay a greatly reduced price - delivery is free.

They range in size from small kitchen caddies that could be free with a composter (or even both might be free) up to 800 litres for large gardens, or small hotels. They are also made from 75% to 100% recycled materials.

They will convert kitchen waste, garden waste, grass cuttings, hedge cuttings, junk mail, and even cardboard boxes back into earth, and may be extremely good value if the local authorities do start charging for the amount of waste they collect from your home.

Many are currently for sale on Ebay - but get them here for less.

BRIEF SUMMARY

All of Scotland seems to have them for about 20% their true price, with free caddies. Welsh councils don't seem to want to entertain the offer. In England it varies vastly from area to area with Lancashire, Hull and Blackburn being free - but virtually all others offering large discounts:- I will add more as they are found.

Better advice for Wales may be found here:-

Sadly if you are from Northern Ireland they don't even recognise your postcode, However 'swillis167' said they will deliver one to you for a fiver if you are in the Belfast CIty Council area with this link...

So the same may apply for other Northern Ireland Councils.

No Idea about Eire yet.

Just a note about that web site - the postcode finder may not find your best option for you. It gave me the details of the organisation in the next county, not my own. I went direct to my own councils web site, and they are offering the same 2 basic bins for much less (small = £5 delivered instead of £17 via above link).

So although its a great idea, it doesn't actually find your own local authority approved scheme.

Still £17 in Hampshire.

Well done!

That confirms what my friend who works for the council said though. Councils are getting rid of their stocks but maybe the website has not updated them all yet..

Could you please tell me what local authority are you with so that I can email them?

Thanks save me looking

The scary robot one is.... £90 !!!!!!

The cheap ones are the standard water-butt looking ones.

And the authority I looked at was Rutland. But they have always been that cheap - no recent reduction.

I suppose they have to try and re-coupe the savings somewhere......

Limited offer - for web orders only!

£79.00 Including delivery
Manufacturer's suggested price £59.00

I purchased one of the 330 ltr compost bins 6 months ago and it was £10, its £20 now! So sorry cold

Why is it so expensive to recycle, think the cheapest thing on the website was a small bucket for £4.
#16
The prices are absurd - eg. £48 for a medium sized plastic bin that costs an extra £5 for delivery??

And they want to encourage recycling?
