Need some advice. Just checked my P cusing the Crucial memory checker and it says:-

Maximum Memory Capacity: 2048MB
Currently Installed Memory: 512MB
Available Memory Slots: 0
Number of Banks: 2
Dual Channel Support: No
CPU Manufacturer: AuthenticAMD
CPU Family: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ Model 8, Stepping 1
CPU Speed: 1666 MHz
The name of this model may not exactly match the model description of your system, our system scanner could not identify a specific model name when evaluating your computer. However, it was able to identify the motherboard your system utilizes.

Q: Will my system recognize the maximum upgrade?

A: Possibly

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found at http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.aspx?qid=4251.

Q: What memory goes into my computer, and can I mix speeds?

A: DDR memory with support for DDR PC2700,DDR PC3200 speeds.

Because DDR memory is backward-compatible, you can safely upgrade your system with any of the guaranteed-compatible DDR speeds listed below, even if your manual calls for PC1600 or PC2100 speeds.

Q: How much memory can my computer handle?

A: 2048MB.

Adding the maximum amount of memory will improve performance and help extend the useful life of your system as you run increasingly demanding software applications in the future.

Q: Do I have to install matching pairs?

A: No.

No, you can install modules one at a time, and you can mix different densities of modules in your computer. But if your computer supports dual-channel memory configurations, you should install in identical pairs (preferably in kits) for optimal performance.

Q: Does my computer support dual-channel memory?

A: No.

Your system does not support dual channel.

Q: Does my computer support ECC memory?

A: No.

Your system does not support ECC. Because ECC and non-ECC modules should not be mixed within a system, install the same type of modules that are already in your system.

Looks like this is suitable but not 100% sure

Also would this be a better deal

It looks like you have 2 x 256 sticks. Would be ideal if you had the name/model of your motherboard, the manufacturer may have a memory compatability page. I know Asus used to.

I have 2 desktop PC's, and the 2 1gig sticks I bought (pc3200) was not compatable with the pc it was destined for. PC starts but keeps rebooting on windows login page.
I tried the other desktop, and it works fine - a new lease of life on a aMD Sempron PC

You can have both pc2700 and pc3200 but it will run at the slower speed.

It is difficult to say it is compatable without knowing the make/model, even then it depends on memory compatbility being documented somewhere.

Details of motherboard are:

System Model

On the 16.99 it says Computer Memory 1GB PC2700 DDR 333Mhz
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/931230/Computer-Memory-1GB-PC2700-DDR-333Mhz-184pin-DIMM/Product.html?P36=9JCZV9

Above doesnt mention what bus speed it is compatible with:?

and on 17.99 says PNY PC3200 / 1GB / 400MHz / DDR / 184pin DIMM / Computer Memory

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3317197/PNY-PC3200-1GB-400MHz-DDR-184pin-DIMM-Computer-Memory/Product.html

Specifications

Main Specifications:
Memory Size: 1GB
Memory Type: PC3200 DDR
Memory Speed: 400MHz
Form Factor: 184pin for Desktop Computers
Compatible With:
DDR PC3200 (400 MHz Bus Speed)
DDR PC2700 (333 MHz Bus Speed)
DDR PC2100 (266 MHz Bus Speed)
Power Mac G5 (except Dual and Quad)

Does that mean the above one isnt compatible with mine as my bus clock is 133mhz.

So therefore should I go with the original posted memory:?

Not sure if anyone is still watching this, but I have just received my 1gb stick of this. However, when I nstall it, on it's own, with a 256gb stick, or with a 512mb stick, my PC will not boot :( On further inspection, the sticker on the stick does not match the sticker on the packaging. Apart from the part numbers not matching, the description on the packaging says '1gb PC2700 DDR 333mhz 184P IN DiMM', whereas on the stick it says '1gb DDR400 DIMM'. So looks like they have sent me the wrong memory? Just in case they are supposed to compatible, my question is should this work in my system or not?
