Sorry but could someone please explain what the complete difference is between a SSD Drive and a SS Hybrid Drive. I partially understand how it works, but is it actually worth investing in??

Thanks..

Hybrids are useful for laptops if you only have 1 HDD bay. As you get the 8GB SSD (Flash) partition for the hard drive this will always have windows on. This leaves you with the 990GB of normal hard disk.

Basically a Hybrid caches your most used files/programs and transfers them to the SSD. This means Windows will always be on the 8GB Flash partition and any games/software you play. If you stop playing game A and start playing game B, A will be removed from the Flash partition and moved back to the disk, game B will be move to the Flash partition.

Sorry if I didn't make much sense in the above.

TLDR - Hot data will be on the flash partition (SSD) Cold data will be on the standard hard disk

If you have a Desktop its more usefull purchasing an SSD & a HDD seperate but if you have a laptop the above can be great.

Who says a laptop can't have a ssd and HDD? I've got an acer 8935g sat in a draw somewhere, that has two hard drive slots...

I’ve got this drive in this Macbook Pro. Essentially, I can’t tell the difference in usage from the previous non-hybrid Samsung 750GB laptop hard drive that I had in there. Mind you, it’s in here now, so I’m not going to whip it out for no reason, but it hasn’t revolutionised the usage in any way. Next time I won’t bother with a hybrid and just go for an equivalent capacity SSD when they reach price parity.
If you compile C++ code then you will notice the extra speed. When I was learning about Android system, it was much faster when I compiled/built the JB branch of Android. It saved several hours compared to my non-hybrid laptop.
Hang on, what exactly do I have to do to get the extra speed?
I'm just saying, if you do a lot of C++ compiling then you might benefit from the hybrid compared to non-hybrid. That was my experience when I replaced mine with a hybrid one.
Okay, I’ll try doing some of that then, if there’s a benefit to be had.

don't forget to backup your saves to the cloud as well

I backed them up to both the cloud and usb but forgot about trophies so hopefully those uploaded auto a few days earlier e.g the last time I played etc

I forgot to sync my trophies on my Vita when I changed from an 8GB to a 64GB card and I don't think I lost anything.. I don't see why syncing trophies has to be done manually as it should sync in the background every time you earn one.

Couldn't see one. Did you manage to get case off intact on the drive you bought from argos?

Yes I said earlier I put the 1tb from my ps4 back into caddy.

I used a old sim card holder (full size) and start at the opposite end of the SS_ socket
Thanks, yes I saw your post from earlier but wasn't sure if you meant a spare caddy you had lying around. I will give it a go tomorrow, I have already synced my trophies and backed up my saves to online storage so I should be all set :)

You just can't trust Seagate these days, pay an extra few quid for a different brand. WD do a 4TB Green for £112. I bought my 2TB Green label in 2010 and it's still fine.
1 out of 4 of my Samsung drives bouhgt within the last few years are still working in comparison.

Eggs / basket / Seagate springs to mind. I've just decommissioned an old server which has been running for the past 8 years with Seagate drives in without a problem. However, every Seagate drive I've come across in the past three years has failed so I'm avoiding them like the plague now (and Samsung who are owned by Seagate).
And we have a winner and very early on.

I've had two of these drives running in my Microserver for a year, maybe longer, without problem. I ordered two WD Red 4TB's to put in earlier this month. One of those drives was DOA and the other failed within 2 days. Bought another two of these Seagate drives to replace them and running happily ever since.
