I was looking for a set of Winter Tyres for my car (2004 Vectra DTi) when I checked Kwik-Fit and found the Continental ContiWinterContact TS830 Winter Tyres 215/55/r16 fitted for £115 each at Kwik-Fit.
I have had to pay in full on-line in advance to get this price.
These tyres have good reviews and I can find them for about £150 each on-line.
The Kwik-Fit online tyre search is a bit fiddly, and if you dont find the right tyre at the first attempt then change the speed rating and try again.
If you finally get a search result that has check boxes for both Summer tyres and Winter tyres then un-check the summer tyres.
These tyres are made in widths 185 to 215, wheel sizes 15 and 16, profile 55 to 65 and speed ratings T, H & V only.

Kwik Fit are usually very very expensive, but this isn't a popular tyre so difficult to find a comparison.

I was just about to post this deal... have been watching winter tyre prices for last 3 weeks as I need 8 for my 2 cars.... going to continent soon.

Continental Winter Contact TS830 is one of the best winter tyres on the market.
see "Group Test Results" at:
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Continental/WinterContact-TS830.htm

I just ordered 8 of these size 205/55H16 for £81.60 + £9.50 fitting, valve...thats £91.10 each fitted.
Also used KFGC-WA50-2010 voucher to get 50% off Wheel Alignment.

This time Kwik Fit is very very cheap....mytyres.co.uk is usually the cheapest but they sell this tyre for £131.90 a piece not fitted !!!!

go to continental Europe sometimes to see how not popular are these tyres!

Why are people voting cold on this deal

its a fantastic price for one of the best reviewed tyres available and at a time when prices for winter season tyres are rising quickly as the weather gets worse and demand gets higher

too many voting without reviewing whats on offer,
#4
Not voted but seems very expensive for what I paid last year and kwik fit were extremely expensive when I checked them.
#5
Thanks for the positive comments, and the extra code for half price tracking.
I think lots of people do not know there is such a thing as Winter and Summer tyres.
Also people may be mistaking Winter tyres for Snow tyres with studs in, which winter tyres dont have.
#6
Very good price. Voted hot, but don't expect high temperatures on this one as most people are pretty ignorant on the benefits of winter tyres. Would buy these but would need a second set of steel rims from somewhere. Tried the scrappys but they haven't got any,
So If anyone happens to have a spare set of 15" 6.5J, 5 stud, 110, ET35 lying around - give me a shout X)
#7
Yes, This posting keeps getting voted cold.
Thankfully these are the right tyres to cope with the lack of heat. :p

As i live in canada i know about winter tires. If these are the same as our snow tires it is a very good thing to have snow tires stop about 60 feet faster in snow, but ice is can still be touchy so be careful on ice. I would think in england everyone should at least have all season radial tires, but no one seems to.

There are Winter Tyres, however, there is no such thing as a " Summer Tyre ".

There are Winter Tyres, however, there is no such thing as a " Summer Tyre ".

Below is a quote from the KwikFit Website. I used the same terminology. For clarity.

Tyre Search
Enter your summer tyre size and we'll show you the VAT inclusive price, special offers and the features and benefits for a range of tyres suitable for your car or van. Alternatively, tell us about the car you drive and with this information we'll find the tyres suitable for your vehicle. Online prices apply to retail customers only.

Anyway the tyres were fitted today, bit of a wait, they were very busy.
First impressions are good, but new tyres always sharpen up the handling anyway. In my opinion.

In the waiting room, they had a poster stating 25% of 4 Winter Tyres or 15% of 2 Winter Tyres.
They also had a leaflet, about Winter tyres, stating Free Wheel Alignment when you buy 4 Winter tyres.
I dont know if they did check the wheel alignment or not, they were too busy to talk to the waiting customers.

Thought I would pop back to thise thread to see if it had got heat or cold...

Not sure why certain people blame ignorance on temp, I purchased winter tyres last year for £45 per tyre. I was the only person able to get up the hill daily at a local spot and drive correctly on the other roads. Thinking of buying a set again...
Going to compare what I got against these. Thinking 215 is actually quite big as I remember 185...

EDIT just checked and I think I got an all season vredestein Quatrac 3 - they were excellant in the snow.

Yes 215 DO look big, and the tyres cost more too.
Another idea, as BigAde is trying to do, is to buy steel wheels in a smaller width, say 195, and have the Winter tyres fitted to them. Cheaper tyres will offset the cost of the steel wheels.
It is easier to swap wheels, instead of tyres, when the warm weather arrives too.

Yes, the vredestein Quatrac 3 do very well as an all season tyre on test here:

Actually looking forward to trying my tyres out. But NO snow, just heavy frosts, here on the Wirral as yet.

I wouldn't trust Kwikfit to change a tyre on my wheelbarrow.

Well I found out my stock tyres on my brand new Seat Ibiza are useless on slight covering of snow. Gone for what I used last year on different car. Vredestein Quatrac 3 All season tyre - got charged £75 each fully fitted. Supply and demand - were £65 fitted when I asked last month.
Lesson here (bit late now) is don't wait to see how useless tyres are, check a review or spec first.

Usually very expensive kwik fit had them for £81.60 till last week. I am happy puppy now having ordered 8 :)

Got mine fitted. £65 a corner so very pleased with the price. Haven't been in a Kwik-Fit for many years and now I remember why... Had pre-booked a time slot, so was a little miffed when they took 30 minutes before they even got to me with no apology. Waiting room was freezing with the fan heaters in the ceiling making little difference. Was waiting for the inevitable Kwik-Fit stock phrase learnt by rote by all employees "We were just taking the wheels off when we noticed xxxxx was shot and needs replacing. As it happens we have the part in stock.... etc etc" - but it didn't come. Maybe because I looked a little p1$$ed off already and they knew I'd tell them where to stick it.

Anyway, left the place a little late but with 4 new winter tyres at the best price I could have got anywhere - £265 all in.

On to the tyres....
First impressions were good - quiet, good grip and stability when cornering.
Tested this morning on some patches of ice that would have sent my summer tyres struggling to gain any traction and although there was a little wheel spin in places, it was a massive improvement.
It's early days yet, but I really can't believe how much better these tyres are over normal summer tyres. The difference is huge.

This is mad! the price has gona up again to £174.10 not for 4 tyres but 1!!! 205/55H16
#30
Not even listed as an option in 195/65/R15 now. Looks like I got in just in time.
Mad that this didn't get to be a hot deal, but can't say I'm surprised.
#31
Happy with mine too! Had to try hard to get a skid on ice (at work on private un-gritted road) by braking.
Anoother post, about the same deal, HERE got froze to -144!

For anyone still interested, just thought I'd update this thread with my experiences with the TS830 winter tyres. The weather conditions recently have been perfect for giving these tyres a good real-world test.

Across the board these are fantastic in all cold weather conditions. Braking and accelerating on snow are roughly equivalent to good summer tyres on wet tarmac - it's startling just how much a difference there was. I wasn't expecting such a huge improvement in cold wet conditions though, but it handles surface water far better than my Continental Premium Contact summer tyres. Ice, and sheet black ice in particular can still prove difficult, though there is significant improvement in traction that got me out of potentially serious trouble on my way home last Friday - I got up a hill that an Audi 4x4 (presumably with summer tyres) failed to get up.

In short they truly inspire confidence in all winter driving conditions. So glad I got these now.

No tyre will perform great on ICE!
I have just done 1000 miles across half of europe with the trailer attached (trailer with summer tyres) and these tyres saved my life!

merry christmas :)
