Hammer in fixings are great for all sorts of strong DIY fixings - drill a hole, insert the fixing, then hammer in the screw part - very strong, very easy - the only thing against them is the price they charge for them in Wickes and B&Q, but Poundland just now are stocking a 34 fixing assortment for a pound, containing 8x100mm, 8x80mm, 6x70mm, 6x55mm and 6x45mm - I grabbed a couple to stick under the stairs ready for the next spot of home improvement. Product described in Poundland as Assorted Wall Plugs, but these are what are known as hammer-in fixings elsewhere.

Any clues as to what went wrong? I'm not sure why other brands might work better than your experience with these ones - they look just the same.

I suppose the key thing with all these things is to make sure that the hole you're putting them in is tight enough and also firm enough to hold them. In the case of these ones they look like the nail/screwn part could do with being pulled out a bit before putting the plug in the wall and hammering it home.

Hope this helps.
