Good price, but beware, it's nigh on impossible to clean certain parts of this slicer (see the reviews on Argos website). OK for bread as the crumbs just shake out but meat particles get stuck and are a **** to remove. I returned mine after a week and went and bought a more expensive one from elsewhere that's made of stainless steel and dismantles for cleaning.

Thanks for the heads up. Reserved one. This will go great with the Panasonic SD-257 breadmaker that arrived on my doorstep today :)

Just read this comment:

"Does exactly what it says - great for slicing homemade bread/cakes and left over sunday lunch joints. Contrary to some comments (and not mentioned in the manual) the folding base and adjustment plate are removable and washable. To remove the adjustment plate (which is marked with a dishwasher safe logo so it must be washable!), turn the knob as if making the thinnest cut possible and, with the blade removed, pull the plate on either the left or right away from the body. Reverse the process to put it back. My only quibble is not being able to overide the safety switch to keep the blade constantly turning but I guess the designers know best."

Does that help? I'm keen to try one of these myself for the small outlay.

On MSE there seems to be people who have had a cheaper version substituted, seems it doesn't fold down. So check that you don't get an inferior machine.
