COSTCO are STILL selling packs of STAMPS at the OLD PRE-INCREASE PRICES of BEFORE April 4th

They have packs of 60 (5 x 12) of "standard" 1st class (was 41p now 46p) and 2nd class (was 32p now 36p)

at a discount of 16.7% 6.5% on the 1st (£22.99 from £24.60 now £27.60)

and 13% 2.1% on the 2nd (£18.79 from £19.20 now £21.60)

They also do 40 x LARGE 1st with 17.36% 6.1% off (£24.79 from £26.40) now £30.00)

I asked at Customer Service how long these prices were going to held for and it appears it might be for as long as current stocks (purchased before they went up) are available - no date currently planned.
I was told my store, Derby, had "LOADS" of them

Thanks to quoia on MSE

Blimey, the price of a stamp these days! Still, a bargain, when you see what it'll cost in a couple of years once privatized.

if you think Royal Mail prices are high now.
Just wait till Deutsche Post get their hands on our postal service.

I had parcels I ordered in November for Christmas gifts from Amazon delivered in mid-January and currently get first class mail up ten days later - the worst thing is - I don't live anywhere remote at all. I'll be happy to pay more for a decent service. Even at 41p - their "first class" service is laughable.

45p is still a very good price to get a picture of your Queen.

Are the new stamps same colour etc as old, ie, do they know difference between old and new? Where do you buy them from at Costco - till, customer service etc? Ta

The stamps from before and after the price change are the same, no difference. There are people who use stamps they bought 5 years ago still using them without issue, so long as they have 2nd or 1st on rather than 36p or whatever they will always be valid for that service.

stamps are legal tender arent they? so you can buy a load then walk into a bank and change them for cash (thats a 5p profit per stamp! wooo)

The postal service is only going to get worse as the penalty for failing to meet targets is much less than the cost of meeting those targets. If Royal Mail could charge TNT etc what it actually costs to deliver their mail to your door, 1st class post wouldn't have to rise by 5p. People are under the false impression that these companies are good for competition, in reality they are costing the joe public money every time Royal Mail has to deliver their mail.
Royal Mails machines are so old and outdated I suggest if your name is Alison you change it or tell people not to put your whole name on it as it may go via St Albans AL1 (son) postcode and if you live in Bangor in N.Ireland then move, your mail most likely travels via Bangor in Wales.
Postal employees are banging are heads against brick walls, management don't care they just sell everything to reduce losses, grab their bonuses and massive severance payments and leave. What does a former FA and supermarket boss know about postal services and what do they care, they just get another job via there public educated friends. All the while The Sun and News of the World will tell you its your postmans fault.

To be fair, for that someone would pick up a letter from a postbox in Southampton and post it through a letterbox in the Shetland Islands within a day or two.

and if you don't want to pay that...then email for nout!

I don't think so. I stand corrected but afaik if you bought a stamp and it says 1st on it it gets delivered as 1st. You don't need to 'top up' the postage if the price has changed subsequently.
#26
do they have any warehouse in London? I could not find it on the list.

Are there any retails to buy stamps on-line ?

he is talking about ''ye time ago'' so im guessing years ago when the 1st and 2nd class stamps had the price of the stamp on it i.e. 26p and 19p (i remember those prices and im only 30) so when the price increased you had to spend the extra. its changed now, for the better.

its a massive price jump really but its still very cheap to send a letter but who does these days? i only ever print postage so buying stamps wouldnt help really and its always packages like dvds, games etc and those prices dont rise as badly usually.

i hope ebay take the rises into consideration though, for those that charge exact postage.

If you are sending a parcel that for instance costs several quid, can you pay over the counter with stamps of the equivalent value?

Yes you can

jonnym the reason you get parcels later now has nothing to do with royal mail its all down to the companys collecting the parcels..

at one time royal mail collected the parcels and delivered them thats why you got them within 3 days but since mandelson agreed to stop that and allow for anyone too collect parcels dhl now collect them and get paid then by law they dont have to deliver them theres a loop hole that states royal mail are the last person to deliver parcels/letters so what they do is hold onto them until they arrange a date royal mail can deliver them for a few pennys ..

royal mail is losng money all down to labour selling us out too the european union they said postal monoplolys had to end in euepoe but only the uk stopped it in the rest of europe there postal services wouldnt allow royal mail to deliver there so instead the dutch/german post office came into our country and cherry picked all the services that were profitable things such as collecting parcels and processing mail.
there onto a win win situation all they do is collect stuff then give it too royal mail to deliver for free or for very little money ..the government needs to step in but they cant because mandelson already signed it away..labours objective was to sell us on to dutch post but they dont want us because of the big pension deffict left behind by labour and the two idiots blair put in charge of royal mail..they lost billions bailing out the german post office when they were going bust in the hope royal mail would become partners with them but all the did was take the money and then refused too allow royal mail deliver in germany thats why we changed our name to consignia because we couldnt trade under royal mails name in europe ..

like someone posted before the price for stamps is still much much cheaper than it will be if we got taken over by another company ..
#31
and adam222 i hope you get caught reusing stamps because you will get arrested for that in my office weve prosecuted over 10 people since xmas for reusing stamps and fined many more buisnesses for doing the samething..

most get a big fine but in some cases they have got custodial sentences
#32
anyone who fancies making a few quid should try the following.

go buy a £1 postal order, and attach a load of stamps to it.....then go to the post office, and ask to have it paid into your post office account.

if im not mistaken, stamps add value to a postal order at the price of a stamp on that day.

worth a try to make 13 to 17.3 % interest in just a day....
#33
failing that - send your freshly bought stamps to :Royal Mail Tallents House, 21 South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh EH12 9PB

you'll need a form, P674......they will send you a cheque back for the face value of the stamps.

buy £1k worth, and wait for the £1173 cheque back in the post......

add in your profit, and do it 25 times.........bingo, £50k in your pocket !

I know there is one in Watford/Bushey

hotyoda i dont think its harsh ..in fact ive always said they should post the convicted offenders names in the papers to deter others from trying to do the same.royal mail loses out on thouands of pounds each week threw people trying to get something delivered for nothing we get parcels with recorded stickers on them that have been used before in our office if we suspect the items have been used before we send the parcels to our sepearate department in northern ireland that deals with these offenders in some cases we just return the item with a note demanding the correct missing postage plus a admistration fee but in repeat offenders there names get logged onto a data base then sent off to our internal police which then liase with local police to then press charges against this person.

royal mail prosecute quite alot of people each year but newspapers dont report it.
#37
They prosecute people for reusing a first class stamp? When I got a screen protector recently from Zagg in the states they wanted a few pence for the duty and something like £8 handling fee, they're the ones robbing people.

I don't usually but I'm going to re use a load of stamps just to annoy you now.

Postal Orders are now printed out at the exact value. There's no place to put stamps any-more.
