The closed beta of the new version of CS:S is now live to everyone with access to the game in steam and to celebrate they have knocked 66% off of the price. The game also now works with Macs.

The new version features some significant graphical enhancements as well as adding over 140 steam achievements, a death cam and more stats than you can shake an AK47 at.

I'll change it to "UPDATED VERSION" if others request that as well, but this is no normal "update" - Valve even did a large closed beta test of it before releasing it and since the price cut is to celebrate the new version (sorry :P) I think it is important to have something in the title reflecting this.

Cold vote pending unless New version is removed from the title as this is just the normal css which is constantly updated.

You are correct in saying css is constantly updated. However, the new update is a considerable one with achievements, scoreboards and much more.
#3
It's still an update to the original. I was slightly confused.

That said, this is a hot deal and I'm updating now.

Voted hot.

You have to pay for Counterstrike these days?

I guess it's a good deal if you don't have it but, I'm happy with the free copy I got when I bought HL2 at launch.

I'd pay £4.76 for it, I got it free too, but I've played CS:S more than any other Valve game.

Thanks for the news about the update as I had no idea! Reinstalling now :)

This is more or less the equivalent to the update of Halo 3 to Halo Reach. Valve decided that instead of making people buy a whole new game, they'd just update the current one.

I'm guessing this is to refresh the game so they can port it to the iMac.

Can anyone advise what this is like on a mac? Use to be a heavy PC gamer and play Counter-Strike at a high level so hoping it's smooth etc...
#15
cs has been dead since the birth of steam

rip ED, CSGN, CPL and other competitive fixtures from IRC

used to be a nice balanced 5v5 game but now its just for noobs

I played this ages ago on the pc and just installed this on the mac. It plays exactly the same as before except that you have to put up with the mac keyboard/mouse combination which is NOT good at all for games.

was waiting for a deal on this, so thanks

Christ is Counterstrike still going

Looking this up its a good price. Voted hot

Heat added, just bought it for a few old friends.

Veterans will be higlhy dissapointed though... Valve has changed css interface today adding loads of unnecessary stuff that burdens your CPU. The gameplay is different now, you get loads of lag, game chockes every now and then, loads of bugs (invisible weapons, flash nades stuck to your head will go off minutes later) and you cant rush properly anymore because every team mate you bump into will push you one step back.

I hope they will fix it soon because my favorite game is crap now.

so i've never played Counterstrike.

Is this an old version or soon to be out of date?

You mean Mac OS, iMac is just a particular desktop model.

I used to be a hardcore CS and then later CS:S player, aint played for what must be 2 years since i got my PS3. May load up the old dog and have ago and see what this new update is all about. No doubt the Source community is whining and Bi***ing about the changes, thats what drove me to quit in the end the community side of counterstrike went downhill bigtime.

Actually the iMac is a range of desktop models not just one in particular. There are numerous iMac models :whistling:

HL and HL2 are good games, although HL will look very dated now. Counterstrike Source is well worth the money and is a great game, be prepared for a sharp learning curve if you do start to play it online now mind as its has been out so long most of the players are very experienced.

Never got into CS:S as I have always been a console gamer, but with Uni finished for the Summer... cant go wrong with £4.

Ah balls yeah, i use to use MX510 (options at thumb placement for quick switch and obviously mouse2 for silencer/zoom etc...)

Will be a completely diff game on a macbook and will jsut frustrate me, might be better leaving it, especially as Steam robbed me of my 5 digit ID, use to be worth some ££ back in the day!

I had to request my old steam ID / password details and once it found those, I could dl css for free since it recognised that I had the full game from years ago. So saved me a few quid!

I am updating as we speak. It didn't start updating until I clicked to play the game. This happened when I went to play GTA IV after not playing for a while, it only started updating once I clicked to play it. I thought Steam was meant to update automatically. Is anyone else having this issue?
#33
Never got round to playing this - gonna get it now for my brand new mac and see whats what :)

No.
#37
As usual, I am having the same old steam issues. I pick the in game server with the lowest latency i can find, join and play for 20 seconds before I get the auto-disconnect in the upper right corner. This happens in all steam games (LFD, CS, TF2). I have moved address, had a new homehub (am with BT) but the problem persists. Annoyingly, I haven't lost my internet connection as I can still surf the web etc through the steam web client.

It's rediculous, does anyone else experience this?
#38
What speed is your internet connection? Also, are you using wireless and if so how far is the computer from the home hub?
#39
Wired connection on an 8mb connection. Been in two towns and so on different exchanges but the problem just always persists.
#40
I have this on steam already from a retail CD key, would it be possible to re-download this on Mac when I get one at no extra cost?
