Courvoisier VSOP Cognac 70cl £21.97 @ ASDA

Not marked as a roll back in my ASDA but nonetheless a very good price for this Cognac. I would normally expect to pay £28 - £30 for a decent VSOP and this is a very decent Cognac. This one is specifically a Fine Champagne VSOP. Highly recommended.

For those not familiar with brandy it’s worth knowing the VSOP is a controlled term – the brandy has to meet certain standards to be allowed to use the term. Terms like 5 star aren’t controlled and are pretty meaningless but VSOP is a useful quality marker. Cognac is brandy made with grapes from the Cognac region of France and (if I recall correctly) Fine Champagne means that grapes from a particular area (or particular areas) of that region have been used.

£26.99 for a litre at Tesco, works out cheaper than 70cl price at Asda. That said 70cl at Tesco is £24.29, so the 1 litre is the one to go for.

You are talking about the wrong product. This deal is for the V.S.O.P version and you have described the price of the V.S. version.

If by "hd" you mean which is the better quality, then it should be the VSOP. As I mentioned on the original post, VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) is an officially controlled designation (if I recall correctly it requires the brandy to at least 12 years old - but I wouldn't swear to that - it's a while since I've seen the definition). The term VS appears to be an attempt by some of the lower end brandy producers to make you think that you're getting VSOP. In fact I find it a bit disappointing that a good quality producer such Courvoisier stoops to such tatics.
