One for gadget fans. Probably the best PMP available on the market today, only £303 on pre-order (due for release on 12th December) from Advanced MP3 Players after applying the attached coupon (AMP3PD) for 5% off. Quidco will also give 4% on this too.

I've dealt with Advanced MP3 Players before and had a really good service so am keen to use them again. Just so happens this is the best price I can find online too.

Overview of the device from the site:

To sum it up, the Cowon A3 is without a doubt the most comprehensively featured Media Player on the market today. There's almost nothing it won't play, although along with this versatility you'll get the best quality reproduction possible. The A2 was a cult hit amongst those in the know and we feel the A3 deserves to break through to the mainstream with it's list of unique features and peerless quality.

I have the 20 gig A2. I can easily say its the best PMP on the face of this earth, hands down.
banned#3
wow that is a hot list of video codecs supported
#4
Yeah, I'm quite excited about a device which finally does MKV playback. The device also outputs 720p over component which is really handy.

No idea why this has been voted cold tho, probably due to iPod fans or something :P

I'm sure most of the cold voting is down to ignorance and not the price!

Ooooh, MKV playback .. nice.
Sorely tempted, my laptop handles them fine and has HDMI output but a portable would be a bit special.
Would have to offload my Archos AV500 though I think otherwise the mrs would throw a wobbly.

Nice find, voted hot just because I want one :-)

I'd be inclined to agree with you there. People will probably see this, think it's an iPod clone but more expensive and not by Apple. However it's so much more than an iPod. No reliance on iTunes and the best file format support on any device other than a laptop :P

Be nice to have a dedicated device that plays back MKVs as the DVI in my laptop doesn't seem to be compatible with HDMI so this will be the only way I can watch the files without transcoding them for the 360.

Ignorance!!!!!!!!!!!!

The real ignorant is whoever buys this device for so much money!

Voted cold, sorry!

For that much money you can buy a laptop (10", 12", 14", 15", your choice) that can do 10 times more than the above. All the codecs above can be downloaded for free for a laptop from places like www.free-codecs.com,...etc.

Cool a laptop for £300 that you can put in your pocket, has component output for 720p output and has 7 hours video playback time.
Point me in the right direction please ....

Voted super hot...

Ipod fanboys are voting this cold because they don't know what this device is...

Will fit in my jacket pocket no problem.
Still waiting to see the 10" laptop for £300 that is capable of playing 720p, has component output and a 7 hour battery life when playing video. :whistling:

I can see your point, the Archos does have a much larger capacity, web browser, touch screen and wifi over the Cowon, but the Cowon A3 does have far superior audio and video codec support (straight out of the box, not optional plugins like the Archos), higher resolution video out and recordable FM radio. Only thing I would have really liked from the Archos is the capacity because when you're using 720p MKV movies, that space quickly disappears :P
#23
the main thing i hate about archos is the fact the screen breaks so easily my mate broke his screen 5 times 1 of dem was by him because he dropped it on the floor now come one that is one fragile pmp and the other 4 he doesnt no i think maybe because of the overheating and for COWON they are the BEST for mp3,mp4,pmp players, sound quality is amazing had a x5l and loved it, battery life was 35 hours now come one can a ipod do that? i dont think so. IPODs ARE SIMPLY ****, the only good thing about them is thier service and design and thats it.

Exactly...

It has it's good points, but is it really worth £303? I can think of far better ways to spend such an amount of money personally. Voted warm as it's a nice bit of kit for the guy who wants it all, but most will find far better ways of emptying their bank acct than on a gadget that truthfully is for impulse buyers only.
Can you hot voters swear that this won't be assigned to a living room draw after six months, when the novelty value has worn off?

Christ do you have to be that careful with what you say!

What I mean is that they have similar costs in terms of small form factor pcb, chipsets, licences etc so adding a bit extra for the portable nature of this still means its expensive.
#27
VERY expensive - about the same price as it was when it first came out. Now its WAAAAYY out of date from all angles - yet STILL expensive.
Ah right - thats why. Its the ultra-expensive Advancedmp3players site. For some reason they have almost a monopoly on Cowon stuff, and keep the prices VERY high.
