Am confused why people would recomend this? for the same money you could buy a 40gb Archos 605 or if you wanted something more compact you could get a 16gb Sony Mp3 Player for £69.99 delivered...

I believe Cowon make high quality players, however, this one is from April 2007 so is an older model. I'd expect they have some newer models.

this is the newer D2+ model, out for a month or so.Having said that there is not much difference between this and the old D2,from what i see BBE2 and a slightly different case. worth adding this can use a SD card for storage, which it integrates into the music library so adding an extra 16GB from around £17 is handy. there have been vouchers around for 10% off cowon products from this site before. i nearly bought one of these but i still love my X5,best sound quality out of any mp3 player.

sound quality is supposedly 2nd to none, screen looks ace and expandable memory - hence a premium product that will cost more than its rivals. I have a sony 16gb and I love it, a Sansa Fuze and I tolerate it. The next one will probably be a cowon, I think that the sony and cowon both have excellent sound, but the cowon has expandable memory - google 'anything but ipod'. I guess it depends on what you want in a player.

Here's the which lowdown its in the which best buy list:: 4gb version though

The 4GB version of the Best Buy D2 boasts all the same spec as the 2GB model. It is fairly heavy but the decent screen make it a good choice if you want to watch videos.

Navigating around the D2 is particularly easy to use thanks to its clever touch-screen. The menu system is also clear and easy to follow. Uploading music onto the D2 is pretty speedy taking just 28 seconds per 100MB.

Sound quality is only ok, but if you replace the provided headphones with a Best Buy set you can really tell the difference. However be aware that the maximum volume setting is very high and could damage your hearing.

Battery life is a marathon 48 hours for music, or up to 9 hours of decent-quality video, and mains operation is also possible. However there is a price to pay for this capacity recharging is slow, taking 3.5 hours.

The D2 comes with 2GB or 4GB of internal memory and this can be supplemented by adding an SD or Multimedia card. Its Mac compatible, has a recordable FM radio and a microphone. It can also play a wide range of music files (MP3, WMA, Ogg, Flac and Wav).

Pros: Decent sized screen, Mac compatible, FM radio, easy to use, long lasting battery

Cons: Heavy (89g), quite expensive

I've had 3 ipods, an Archos, 2 Sonys, a few cheapo supermarket models, but I still use my Cowon d2.
Its not as slim as my Sony, but it has the best sound quality of all the mp3 players I've ever had.
It also has amazing battery life, I used it to Australia including a stop over & never had to charge it.
I took three 16gb SDHC cards loaded with movies & music, audio books & a pair of speakers, it has never let me down, never crashed once (my ipod drove me nuts crashing)
Mine is only a 4gb model, but it also has a built in DAB. You can bookmark as many movie files & audio files as you want, something I find of great use, especially with audio books.
I noticed someone selling batteries for the D2 on e-bay. Even though mine is still workings great, I'm gonna buy a battery now, while they are available for when it does start to fade. As far as I'm concerned, this is the best mp3 I've ever come across.
Recommended, for what that's worth :)
As for the crystal cases, there was a seller at Amazon selling them for pennies- can't remember the correct price, but even with p+p it was well under £1.50. I bought 3 from them. Worth a look if you are gonna buy one.

What would you think of using this as an 'In car' Movie Player? We are looking for a DVD Player for the car (old one broke). Would this be any good/better than a DVD Player?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

EDIT: Just read the spec, 2.5" screen! Oh well.

For an in car dvd player i'd go for a ministry of sound head unit as it comes with audio & video in and out leads so you could put whatever screen you like to expand from the head units own 2.5" screen

Thanks for getting back hobo. I was hoping to cut down the amount of equipment/wires mate. Might have to look at getting another DVD Player. Was hoping I could get everything on one unit though. :-(

AHEM! Apple does not come close to most of the better players on the market. Ipods have very average sound quality. So to say it rivals it, is a massive understatement.

Basically the same thing apart from cosmetics. The new firmware contains BBE+, but this can be loaded onto older models too. Cowon release regular firmware updates.

"OK"? It is usually described with words like "outstanding". As with many players the bundled phones are rubbish, I guess to save wasting money on something no one uses? You're right about the volume... the D2 can easily drive an amp to a decent volume (74mW). I regularly listen to my mp3s etc. through my hifi at home.

Plus for the record, its 52 hours music playback and 10 video....! 3.5hr charging refers USB charging, with the supplied standard power adapter it is half that.

As you probably can guess, I love my D2!
