Jump to unread Post a Commentpretty much all modern motherboards wont be able to take it. even the ones that say they have pci often dont/cant. i have a v-lx and pci just doesnt fit :/
Why?
They can easily be found for a tenner and they work fine with Win 7. :|
I have this card. Paid £20 at Amazon. Great card!
The motherboard I bought a couple of months ago doesn't. PCI is obsolete and doesn't belong on a modern motherboard.

Many Z77 motherboards still have PCI.. they modern enough for you?
you need to re-read my post. i am perfectly aware that modern motherboards still have pci, i even said that mine does. i simply stated that most modern mobos wont be able to take it. theres 5v pci and theres 3.3v pci. theres pci 1.1 and 2.1. ive got 3 pci cards from older builds and none of them fit my v-lx.
if you buy this without doing quite extensive research into your mobo, you are taking a pretty big risk.

Its also worth adding that on modern motherboards, the 1 pci slot is usually blocked if you have 2 graphics cards.

Most modern motherboards still have a PCI slot, you must have a mATX board?
Usually the only limitation is surrounding voltage as mentioned :)

If you actually want a good third party soundcard there are lots to choose from including:
- ASUS Xonar
- HT | OMEGA
Which aren't mediocre hardware pared with poorly written drivers that cause a broad range of system malfunctions.

Creative make amazing sound cards...
But yeah, if you have a realtek onboard sound you may find that you don't need a new sound card anyway!
