Watch out as some modern motherboards won't have access to a pci slot.
    conor147
yup, this is pci. not pcie.

pretty much all modern motherboards wont be able to take it. even the ones that say they have pci often dont/cant. i have a v-lx and pci just doesnt fit :/

Not true. Alot of modern motherboards do have 1 PCi port. just make sure that if you have SLi GPu or double slot solutions that its free. (The PZ68 Asus board on here at the moment DOES have PCi for example)

Would rather get a second hand full size Audigy 2 card on Ebay, can easily be found for a tenner and they work fine with Win 7.

Spend a bit more and get an ASUS Xonar DG 5.1.

I have this card. Paid £20 at Amazon. Great card!

How would this or the ASUS Xonar DG 5.1 compare with my current X-Fi?

This soundcard is crap, its using tech from the late 90's early 00's onboard audio is actually tons better these days, better than this card for sure. Its only useful if the onboard sound chip kicks the bucket.

Not true. A lot of modern motherboards do have 1 PCI port.

The motherboard I bought a couple of months ago doesn't. PCI is obsolete and doesn't belong on a modern motherboard.

Many Z77 motherboards still have PCI.. they modern enough for you?

you need to re-read my post. i am perfectly aware that modern motherboards still have pci, i even said that mine does. i simply stated that most modern mobos wont be able to take it. theres 5v pci and theres 3.3v pci. theres pci 1.1 and 2.1. ive got 3 pci cards from older builds and none of them fit my v-lx.

if you buy this without doing quite extensive research into your mobo, you are taking a pretty big risk.

Its also worth adding that on modern motherboards, the 1 pci slot is usually blocked if you have 2 graphics cards.

Most modern motherboards still have a PCI slot, you must have a mATX board?
Usually the only limitation is surrounding voltage as mentioned :)

My motherboard is PCI and not PCI-E, no-one minds if I actually think about buying this if it's a bargain for a tenner do they? I hope not ;) However a little research does seem to confirm this is not for Windows 7 owners.

    Heat added OP.

Creative make trash. Wouldn't install this if they paid me £9.99. Stick to the Realtek sound-chip on your motherboard.

If you actually want a good third party soundcard there are lots to choose from including:
    - ASUS Xonar
    - HT | OMEGA

Which aren't mediocre hardware pared with poorly written drivers that cause a broad range of system malfunctions.

Most modern MB's dont need a sound card. You'd probably find the on board is better.

    Creative make amazing sound cards...
But yeah, if you have a realtek onboard sound you may find that you don't need a new sound card anyway!
