Hi there fellow bargain hunters,

I found this lovely bit of kit reduced to £99.99 (RRP seems to vary between £130 and £199). Not bad for 16Gb, although it's also on amazon for £99.99, however, you can use the attached £5.00 off play voucher to bring it down to £94.99, and my quidco tracked at £4.00 reducing the cost to £90.99! Excellent value when you see that the 8Gb version is currently reduced to £79.99! Twice the memory for £11 extra (or £16 difference really, as you could also use the voucher with the 8Gb version to bring it down to £74.99, and reduce further with quidco/topcashback.co.uk or possibly other cashback sites).

It has some nice features, good reviews and is the cheapest I can see it online. 8Gb version is reduced to £89.99 at argos from £129.99, so £1 more for 16Gb seems very juicy to me ;)

Also until 31st July 2008, Creative are giving you a free concert download with selected creative purchases (including this one). Choices include Coldplay, Radiohead, Gorillaz, Lenny Kravitz, Norah Jones, Kylie Minogue, Massive attack, Placebo, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snoop Dog! You can cut and paste the following link to your address bar for more info: http://media.play.com/ContentDocs/creativeliveconcert.pdf

I was also tempted by the "Sony NWZS618SF 8GB MP3/4 Player - Half Price £59.99" offer (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/208512/sony-nwzs618sf-8gb-mp3-4-player-hal/) so got one for the son! (Month of birthdays for us so forgive the indulgence please). I'll let you know how they compare when the creative arrives.

Good luck!

Hi All,

The creative zen vision M 30gb - is £70 at my local Sainsbury's - minus my cousin's 10% discount makes it £63

Other than the obvious size difference (actual size and Giggage) what are the major differences between these models? Do they both have radio's?

How much extra worth it is it buying the 16gb here at approx 91 squid inc quidco versus buying the 8gb one at PC world and buying some separate SD cards for photos and or movies?

Thanks,

J

Hot, also their a newer model Creative's Zen X-Fi, which features X-Fi technology, SD expansion and built-in WiFi, speaker, FM tuner, voice recorder, and the ability to stream media from Creative's "Public Media Server." Additionally, users can chat with Yahoo! Messenger and Microsoft Live! users thanks to the 9-button, cellphone-like keypad.

Hi, to all the guys & girls thinking of getting this. I must warn you. Basically I bought this because i thought it would be the dogs. Turns out it's not very good. 1st up, the sound quality is pretty poor compared to many. The battery is also pretty poor. Can't remeber how long it lasts (was on the channel tunnel. Switched it on when i got to france that was it, dead (i watched one video as well as music).

It does not accept standard divx. Files need to be reconverted to a smaller size in order to play,.

The worst thing about it is the software. It is amongst the buggiest I have ever encountered. I have had pretty much all mp3 & video players. I sent back 2 of these to play. I have had the zen M aswell. Not as buggy, but still crashes alot.

For those who want a small MP3 & Video player go for the Iriver Clix, or even the sony NWZ walkmans as there build quality is a million times better. Sure the 16gb will look atractive but wahts the point of that when the battery won't even last that long or the fact it'll constanly crash.

Sorry, nice price but poor quality product. Creative don't seem to have taken any notice of this happening to previous products.

My Wife & I both have one each, 8gb, and does everything it says on the tin. Nice size, design, and price, and sound is absolutely fine. Good Deal.

Think this device needs sticking up for after an earlier post.

I have the 8gig version - as with pretty much every mp3 you will buy the included earphones are awful, so factor in the cost of a decent set..then the sound reproduction I think is superb.

Also battery life: I go to the gym every day after work for approx an hour and then play the creative through to my cars stereo - battery easilylasts longer than a week use so I would guess well over 8 hours (music play) and im the type to constantly change tracks.

SD / SDHC expansion - yes you can add an sd / sdhc card to increase the memory size but you will have to go into the sd card folder to access the stored data - a minor point really, but will bother some no doubt.

Even though im left handed I find it simple to use, and have had no trouble with the drag and drop system for loading on music - videos I havent really given that much of a go at, but did download a third party convertor for you tube videos and that worked with it a treat.

Personally I wasnt after a show off and boast mp3 player with restrictions galore to what it will play, just a player which does exactly what you expect and does it well....I am well happy with it and if you can pick up cheaply I recommend 100%.

Hoot !

Also that X-fi .....i want ! :D tho...wouldnt you really need a big pair of good cans or a 5.1+ system to get the best from x-fi tech? :O

only 8 hours chelmsfordman? 20 is quoted and this Reg review says closer to 17hrs

http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/11/14/review_creative_zen/page4.html

i've just bought one so i'm hoping it's closer to 17 :-)

can a current owner answer this question......

i've read that the sd memory is accessed in a different manner to the internal memory, is it accessed as a folder structure or still using "artist / album / etc"

16 gig is rubbish - FAIL. Voted cold!
#18
The folder access for files on the SD card is through a separate menu, and as such you don't get the same sorting, etc, as the files that are on the internal ram - a bit of a pain and not the best design. To load things onto the SD too you have to connect it up by going into the memory mode....

As for the overall reviews, I'm a little disappointed with my 4gb version that I've had for a while now. I bought it for general music and media while on the move. The media file conversions through the software is a pain, and the screen is just a little small when compared to something like an ipod touch/iphone....might be worth a wait for later this month when Apple are said to be dropping prices after the launch of the iphone2?

All in all a reasonable player from a good company, but nothing groundbreaking....

Ok maybe 8 hours was being unfair, point that I meant to make was, I dont have to worry about the battery running out constantly - I was suprised how long it lasts, so yeah maybe 15 hours + is more realistic, just never measured it.

DS card memory expansion as explained earlier on isnt the best, but it is an option and I think handy, also my laptop wouldnt accept SDHC cards into its provided slot, and the zen enabled my laptop to recognise it when plugged in via the zen, which was a bonus to me.

16 gig FLEXIBLE FORMAT music, video + radio and organiser for under £95 delivered to me is a good price, roughly the same dimensions as a credit card (thickness is more like a thin mobile - i.e the thickness of the keypad section of a samsung u600).

.

This sounds bad - my 30GB Creative Zen: M has extremely long battery and can play most DivXs / Xvids i put on it. Stuck the whole of South Park seasons 4-7 and a few other shows on there, plays em all.

Having to convert them is a massive disadvantage - be warned you probably wont end up using the video feature, as it'll be massive hassle. If you're primary looking for a movie player, consider the Zen Vision W (even though its quite chunky!)

I returned my last MP4 player in the seven day cooling off period because I was stunned to find it didn't have a sleep timer - what sort of player doesn't allow you to go to sleep and automatically shut itself off after a preset time?! Does this thing have that ability, or the Zen M series or Vision W mentioned above?

Hi,

RE the expansion slot apparently "get your player upgraded to the latest firmware (1.20.02e) and you can copy from the SD card to the Zen's internal memory" - according to customer reviews on a well known online bookshop :whistling:

I like the sound of the new model too, I had a look about after ordering mine as I always presume a new model's in the pipelines when these are reduced in price. Apparently it's pretty much the same (specs-wise) but with wifi. I'll content myself with this for now until we know when it'll be released, and more importantly at a reasonable price!

RE the negative feedback - I have read a few reviews where people haven't been happy with the software but the vast majority seem extremely pleased with it (given the average star ratings of buyers, I like to do my research). On the whole though, I have to say that I've always been impressed with the quality of creative goods I've bought, and I'm not an easy lady to please when it comes to quality.

At the end of the day, if I'm one of the unlucky few to have any problems with it, I can always return it and get the newer model when it's released. Win-win!

Pity it's a creative product - 16gb of a iaudio/iriver/sony would be nice for that price. Still, good price.
#25
Its a good product and price - but for not much more you will be getting the small screened EEE as the drop in price as the newer ones arrive - and its screen is 9 times the size for watching films (albeit with the downside of poorer battery life, no FM - and less storage, which pretty irrelevant as both could hold more video than you could watch in a week.

Hi,

just thought I'd leave a little follow up now the 8Gb sony and 16Gb Creative are in my hands :)

Have to say, I'm much more impressed with the creative on a few grounds:
1. Larger screen - bright and lovely, better for viewing pics and vids imho
2. Easier to use radio
3. Superior editting - like the ipod lot (which I also have) the sony can only be editted on a computer, whereas you can delete things on the creative itself! Big plus to me as I often move too much over and like to be able to organize it on the player.
4. More features on creative, which is nice :)

So it's a creative win for me. I've used the included software (fine) I converted vids from my viewty overnight and they look fab on it. Personally, I prefer the ability to view divx files on my mp3 player, than not (even if a little conversion is required). This enables me to store vids on my mp3 and free my mobile for making new vids. Not as great as one that requires no conversion, but how many 16Gb mp3/4 players do you know for under £92?

Setup (on both) easy, though I found creative to be more intuitive, and quick!

Both good, sony may be more suited if you prefer music only (as it's cute and dinky size is not large enough to fully enjoy pics and vids - imho) but I'd defo go for the creative if you like to view pics and vids and like to have the freedom to edit contents on the player.

Hope this helps ;-)

Hi,

I think I know what people mean about the software/mp3 freezing. It happened to me today. However, it's simple to fix (press the reset button on the bottom) so pressuming that is it's full extent, although it's worrying if you don't know what to do, it's simple to rectify.

It's worth noting (I think) that the same thing happened to me within a day of using the Sony NWZS618SF 8GB MP3/4 (which also has a reset button). So I wonder if it's a technological issue common to these types of mp3/4 players..?

Any thoughts or comments anyone? :?
