Strangely the smaller 2gb version is more than £5 more expensive from Amazon :-)

these are cracking little players, Music and video quality are excellent and can handle large video files no probs. Add into that its got a radio, calendar etc and its about the size of a credit card and really slim, for me its better than the ipods. Over and above this it accepts high capacity SD cards to you can expand the memory or start an SD library of music and videos and use them whenever. I had one for ages, wish I hadnt sold it but I needed the money at the time. now that they are this price I'm going to buy one! lol.

I actually have the 16gb one myself & am very happy with it.

I was looking for a £40ish player with video for aforementioned 9yr old daughter no1 - didnt expect to get something as good as this at that price point :-)

Got one for the daughters christmas, when these where on the last time, couple of weeks ago. I have only tried the music and it seems great. I have to find a good video software to watch the vids.

Hot at this price

if your looking at this I'd also checkout the sandisk players too, they intergrate with the memory card much better.

I want a good mp3 player for under £60, but I definately want it to be best audio quality, not fussed about features.

I bought my wife the 16gb version of this and she loves it. Battery life is good, its comes with software but can be populated just using drag and drop, will play lots of different audio formats (unlike the ipod) but will will only play one type of video format. It does come with software to convert different file formats into one that the player will play. Headphones that come with it are OK but picked up some decent ones cheaply on play.com that were far superior. Not that she noticed.

Will it take a 8 or 16gb SDHC card ?
#9
yup, or a 32gb for that matter

Got one of these too - i love it !

Are u sure .....support says no (8gb max) :

http://www.creative.com/products/mp3/zen/?nav=sdcard

BUT.....it does say SD memory cards not listed here may still work with your player

Anyone tried and SDHC card higher than 8gb ?
#11
Added heat as good deal but i have ordered from Pc World with Quidco at £69.99 but they will price match amazon with another 10% off so better deal all round. And i can collect when drive by in morning so not gotta wait for delivery. So got for £38.19 after quidco and 10%.

last firmware update was 8 months ago so a new Zen should be up to date.

Worth checking though.

I was thinking of buying an ipod for my 12 year old son for xmas, can I have opinions on wether this would be a better option for him?
#17
What format of videos does this play?
#18
I'm gonna go to PC World on the way home and get it price matched :)

It should come around £2 cheaper and I can have it tonight :D

You know the problem with these zens even the latest xfi zen have the same issue.
The memory card doesn't integrate with the player it's a whole seperate thing with no gui just plays the tracks.

I stick my video on the memory card & music on the internal memory.

Yep

Thanks - heat added and I've ordered one. There seems to be really mixed reviews on amazon but I want an MP3 player and at this price it seems like a reasonable bet.
#24
Hi. Will this slot into the creative speakers? Thanks.
#25
For those looking at other software for converting Video this seems to be a good (& free) option (XMedia Recode 2.0.7.0).

Don't seem to work with Macs from the Amazon description.

Is that right?

E2A: Seems there's some freeware to download but it's a bit hit and miss.

I bought one of these myself (for a few quid more) recently.
It's a brilliant little player & with the Sandisk 8gb SD card it has a useful & pretty amazing capacity.

Yes it's a shame the stuff on the SD card doesn't fully integrate but I'm not so bothered.
I use mine instead of CDs in the car, you get to carry a really huge library of music around in high quality & all it needs is a little USB connection......and being so small it's easily removed & put in a pocket.
It's all so much handier than tapes or CDs.
#28
Well I've just plumped for one of these for daughters birthday. seems like a good deal :)

I've had a look at the sd card compatible list and this one is on there and seems a good deal, 8gb for £9.85. There is also this one, it's a great deal, 16gb for £17.49, but I'm unsure if it's supported as it's not on the list.

I too have one of these, the 8GB vwersion. I watch all my TV and movies on this. The conversion software for me works ok. I've had to download some codecs when converting some files. So far I have converted wmv, avi, . A great player. I love mine. Hot for me.

anyone know if you can get the docking stations / speakers like you can get for i pods for these

so that you can use them like mini stereos??
#31
I presume these wont play divx / xvid without conversion ?
#32
Thanks OP. Ordered one. Hot!

If you can normally charge your Garmin from USB then it should be OK.

You may have to check out voltages from the mains charger are the same as USB.

I use something like this http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/5409557/iSound-iPod-Mains-Power-Charger-USB-Adaptor/Product.html

Hot! Just ordered one for my boyfriend's birthday next month. Brownie points for me! :)

It is a really nice player - got one the last time this was posted for my sons 9th birthday last month (typically enough it dropped in price the day after it arrived from Amazon!). It is very simple to use - charge and drop files into it via USB. Will convert Divx films into something it can use (does take a bit of time though). The screen is nice and bright and fine for watching them back. It did do the old screen of death and freeze, but with a bit of searching on the Creative web-site I simply re-installed the firmware and (fingers crossed) it has worked fine ever since. For the money I think this is better than an ipod (which I have). Can easily get a cheap case to protect it from play.com.
Highly recommended.
