Just be careful the little centre menu stick has a habit of snapping off rendering the unit useless..

My uncles 2gb snapped and one of my friends 2gb zens snapped aswell...Its obviously a weak spot on these models, nice unit though in all but I didn't like the way half my music collection when transferred to my uncles zen wouldn't recognise my albums and came up with Unknown for almost half of them, I couldn't even change them manually....

Meaning half the time I didn't know what I was listening to until I had actually selected the unknown album and started playing it...Which is a pain...

Was that not just a tagging problem with the original files?

My daughter paid £70 for a pink one, has had no problems with hers as yet.

Makes no odds my sony mp3 player recognises everything....

So should the zen....Would take me an age altering every tag covering the thousands of tracks I have in my music collection...Like I said bit of a pain..:x

ID3v1,v2,v2.x.. there's a lot of tag types, some or all of which can be filled in at once, probably inconsistencies in your collection which different devices handle... differently.

It has to make odds really?! There are lots of different sorts of tags players use different types of tags. No player can ever display any info on any song, artist or album without reading the tag. I use http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm and have found it very good.

I've tried creative, apple and sony and personally found the sony UI worse than appalling. But hey, this site is about opinions.

The Sony reads the lot and thats all i'm worried about...And for your info I have tried them all aswell...:)

When new technology hits the shelves i'm the first to try it...Its this first hand experience that gives me knowledge of a product and allows me to rate against other products I have tried and tested..;-)

I'm not slating the zen it is a brilliant mp3 player, just giving my knowledge of the product and its downsides, as all products have them...

ok, I think we're in broad agreement here. Every type of player reads tags, if the tags are empty then every type of player will display "Unknown". No player is any better or worse at readings tags than any other. A few facts that are indisputable.

Read reviews on ease-of use which is an entirely subjective matter and Creative & Apple have both got it sussed and are a matter of personal choice. Sony and their various audio file formats and clunky software are simply way behind the field. I'm typing on a Sony laptop, have a Sony camera and SE phone, but their mp3 players are a different ball game - to any newbies considering one, think long and hard. Latest 8gb models, Zen £170, Apple £150 but £130 for the Sony? They retail it cheaper for a reason, but they won't be getting my wad.

I thought I found it cheaper but the website where I found it was misleading :whistling:

Sorry if I've caused any offence.

Someone has posted a good offer and you've tried to talk potential buyers out of it by:

1) Mentioning a hardware fault which I have not heard of, and is not common. Certainly nearer 2 in a 1000 than the 2 in 2 that you infer.

2) Trying to claim that the player has some sort of weakness in reading tags; a number of posters have tried to point out that the weakness is not in the player but is yours by not understanding tags and/or not reading the manual.

I'm trying to help people get a balanced view of the player. What's your vested interest?

Shame M&S sold out of the Creative Zens at xmas as I got a 30gb Vision M for £39.99 :w00t:
Makes these look expensive really.... (I'm really impressed with mine as I don't like Itunes hence me not buying an Ipod)
