Think it might have been posted once or twice before but thought it deserved a new post at this price. Was sorely tempted when it was floating round at £220 but couldn't resist for £87(ish) after the

Mine arrived about 1:30, was left with a neighbour. Emailed cresent and they said signed for at 1:30 by XXXXXXX, only lived here a month so no idea who that was, so just tried neighbours and they had it in their porch so that was good. So glad it came today, meant I could send it back to Leeds to set up when over thre next weekend (can't take server on train), otherwise of had to wait till mid december.

I pulled the 250GB drive (to use in my existing microserver) and wrote down the serial before sending it to Leeds with them, will email cashback form like I did last time, got a reply within 2 days.

sent my email today, got one straight back saying they had got it and would process in due course. Then about an hour later another to say that they had processed.
jimbb
Yeah mine arrived too! I was trying to ask my brother to fill the form for me, is the serial number on the box as well? (I bought one before but forgot already lol)

Serial number is on the box
Fuel Crusher
Mine also arrived.

Huge thanks to Madbitster on the first page for the ordering trick, I was kicking myself when they suddenly went out of stock.

Also have to comment on the great customer service and speedy communications from Caroline at Crescent.

My two units arrived today, cashback already sent by post :
Just some notes on my past experiences, Ordered 3 units last time, cashback email should arrive around two weeks and cheque the following week.
Out of the 3 units I have, only one developed a fault on the system board, phoned Hp support in the evening and the new system MB arrived next day via FedX, better customer support than Dell.
Not sure if someone has mentioned this Free parts replacement for 1 year included.
Currently upgraded the memory to 8GB, GPU = ATI HD6450 (low profile) and 4 X 2TB Western Green Cavair.
Windows Home server 2011 (£36 from CCLonline), interesting note about WHS 2011 can be installed on more than one microserver, for the second activation just phone (not online) the freephone activation number and activates with no issues.
For the money you just cannot get a 4 bay unit for this price, excellent media server.
Planning to add more sata ports for additional drive in the CD bay.
Can be left on as only 20W power usage.....
Yeah mine arrived too! I was trying to ask my brother to fill the form for me, is the serial number on the box as well? (I bought one before but forgot already lol)
mine arrived too

awesome bargain!

Are crescent electronics (http://www.crescentelectronics.co.uk/) ok to use? I saw their Amazon feedback and the score is terrible: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/seller/at-a-glance.html?ie=UTF8&seller=A1NJXC3P5XLM17 78% can this be trusted - has any one ever used them? Thank you in advance - I dont want to get stung.
OP is high
if deal was not expired (strange deal still available), it would have broken all time coldest deal record.
This would only be colder if it was manufactured out of halal chicken
Why has this expired? still stock available? I think this will start getting hot soon as well.

-694 is ridiculous.

This looks like a very good deal. I have a 8800GT which is the oldest model that can do 3D Nvidia vision.

Has anybody used this with the 3d Nvidia vision?
Although this deal maybe hot, I wouldn't touch Crescent with a barge pole. I ordered a monitor from them, waited in for delivery- it never came. I phoned them and they assured me it had been dispatched so I waited in again. Still no monitor. I then get an email saying it was late due to an electrical outage at their supplier's warehouse. I then get an email saying they had sold out of the monitor and it would be another two weeks. I may have just been one of the few unlucky ones. However my experience is that they are just drop shipping @rse holes.

Better to wait for glasses free 3D

Glasses free TV will be for loners from what I've seen. Single focal point? OK for one viewer.

4k 3D glasses, now that's cool!

From the article you linked to...
In person, this basically means you need to watch the TV and keep moving until the 3D image catches – and stay in the sweet spot. A little head movement from side to side won’t hurt, but even a tiny step from side to side at 10 feet away can make or break image quality. Besides the dead spots this will leave on your couch where no one can experience 3D, it also restricts movement, which might be tolerable for a TV show but would probably feel like a prison sentence over the course of a two-hour movie.

When it works, it works well, but not perfectly. Toshiba claims all nine zones off the same experience, but we found the dead center spot offered tremendously improved picture quality that’s deeper, clearer, and a more solid-looking. Off to the side, the 3D effect seemed to lose most of its fizz, flattening to a level that almost requires you to focus to even notice the 3D.

Hmm yes, that sounds ideal. It has a LONG time before it's perfected...until then everyone will have to bob and weave around like Naseem Hamed to find a zone, and when they do the 3D effect will be rubbish, unless they're sitting directly in front of the screen at the proper angle like a giant 3DS. Truly the future!!!!

Also, as the screen has a 4K resolution it'll be very expensive, and 1080p broadcasts will have to be upscaled as they are no longer the native resolution of the panel...that can't look too good, though it is future proofed I suppose.

How do you get the £100 cashback? Also unless I am blind I can't make out how many SATA ports on the motherboard. Can anyone help?

(1) read the PDF pointed to at the top, print it, fill in the supplier details, send it off and wait a couple of weeks for your cheque.

(2) ISTR there is a single SATA socket on the MLB for either a top mounted CD or an extra drive hidden at the top.
The four main drives sit in a mini rack that connects to the MLB with a dedicated (but standard) multi connector.

There are 4 bays for hdds in caddies, another sata port on the motherboard intended for a disc drive in the top bay like you say but there is also an e-sata port which can be diverted back into the case. So with very little modding or money there is plenty on space for 6 drives.

I'd also say these are very well made and solid, I ended up buying a few and recommended to some friends.

Have you tried added extra HDD's yet.
I was looking for a adapter to put in the 5.25 bay.
eSata back in to case, how will that work?
WORTH MENTIONING A NEW VERSION OF THIS HAS BEEN INTRODUCED - FASTER PROCESSOR - TWICE THE MEMORY - AND AN EXTRA £12 ON THE HP PRICE - BUT NO CASHBACK.
To be fair it's £219 exc VAT on the HP site, the older version listed here is £183 EXC VAT.....
So that's a £40 difference, then £140 difference if you include the cashback.....You'd have to be pretty silly to go for the newer model

and Power has dropped from 200W to 150W

Can anyone post a link to a guide to using this as a NAS drive (as that's all I'm after really).

What needs to be done? I'm not very technical so don't want to be doing something too complicated.

BTW - heat added as it seems like a excellent deal.

We're looking to create a Wiki for it, though that's going to take at least a few days I'd say...

Can't find anywhere is that link that has a guide to setting this up as a NAS. More like a general discussion. Apologies if it's there but I cant see it.

I guess what I should have stipulated when I asked for opinions regarding Crescent Electronics was that the question was open to everyone but you.

I couldn't give a pint of Castlemaine XXXX what you think. Your opinion is about as useful as a tall metal hat in a thunderstorm.

I find it amazing you've spent so much time researching me in order to try and have a dig. I on the other hand haven't bothered researching you as I don't need to. I already know you're a pratt without reading more about you.

It's a good price (voted hot) but Crescent Electronics is an unknown to me. Anyone dealt with them?. I notice from their website there are some pretty bad sizing issues with the page. Delving into their motherboard section I found overlapping prices and badly formatted frames which completely distort the web-page. It might just be that they're having a bad day (hopefully) because if that's the general quality of their website I would personally probably just find someone a little more expensive and known quantity to buy from.

Crescent are perfectly fine, as for anyone dealing with them, well I bought an HP microserver from them and so did a few others, you should probably learn how to search hotukdeals, and get out from under that rock you've been sleeping under for the past 3 years and 11 months of your membership, will a 25 page thread suffice about this 'unknown' retailer? >

Takes 5 secs to find out how long some one has been a member, you started the rudeness not me. Anyway no point polluting this thread any further with my opinions.

Just trying to be helpful, might have over emphasised it a bit/ a lot. I'm not interested in arguing on threads it serves no purpose whatsoever.

Ok I probably should have included a " :) " as I wasn't having a major go but I admit to being sarcastic when pointing out that you'd overdone the explanation of these modules not being dual channel memory specific.

I think you certainly went for the jugular though but lets both agree that people's intentions can be misinterpreted, especially when typed out on a forum such as this. I come here for the great deals, a bit of banter and hopefully to learn something useful about what I'm about to buy / have bought...and of course try to help others (which I accept is really all you were trying to achieve ultimately).

Truce!

Good price, but be careful cos this is ONLY compatible with x58 chipsets (i7 9xx processors). Not suitable for the vast majority of systems.

Sorry, this is compatible with everything in the market

I am on thin ice but am pretty sure sandy bridge is not triple channel.

You're correct.

X58 is triple channel. There is NO such thing as Dual or Triple channel ram, the configuration is dual or triple i.e how you use the ram. This ram will run fine on most boards that accept DDR3 and of course to use it all you would need three slots, but you can use one, two or three sticks it doesn't matter. The poster you replied to is wrong.

So if you used one stick it would work as single channel, and if you used two it would work as dual channel and if you used three it would work as triple channel? Is that right? There's no advantage of using advertised dual channel as dual channel rather than triple channel as dual channel?

I think I got your question right, no advantages at all. If it is advertised as dual channel, it means they are providing you a set of 2 sticks or 4 if you use them for 4 slots, if the set is for 3 channels then you get 3 sticks or 6 if you want to use the 6 slots. You can also buy them singles and make it up at your pleasure. You can also use 4 sticks as 3 channel provided that the 4th stick is inserted in the right slot. Not really shure about using 3 sticks as dual in a dual motherboard as there is no mention usually in the instruction manual about that. I am going to investigate and try. but if remember well, the CPUID software would still say dual channel and therefore I believe than 3 stick inserted in a dual channel motherboard, are going to work as a proper dual channel. Please someone can rectify me if I am wrong about the 3 sticks as dual channel. As tested I can see that for example, memory designed for sandy bridge, the 2113mhz works better, on my amd platform, than what I was suggested to buy in the past for my amd motherboard and therefore I assume that anything is compatible with everything unless the memory is faulty.
I am sorry, have i been confusing???? I know what I am talking about but I never became a scientist because no one understands me,lol.

LOL yes you did confuse me with the more complex ideas such as "You can also use 4 sticks as 3 channel provided that the 4th stick is inserted in the right slot. Not really shure about ...".

But now I know the basics that dual channel is just 2 sticks and not something that just runs as dual.

(_;)

I did not invent it, you can definetely run 4 sticks of ram in trichannel in a trichannel motherboard with 6 slots or in a trichannel motherboard with 4 slots. Saying so, I am not sure if there might be some of the first generation 1366 sockets that do not support 4 sticks in trichannel.
@Meathotukdeals

Thought best to not copy whole convo in as its getting pretty long :)

Bobo is on the right track and not that this is definitive but I'm pretty certain that if you stick 3 memory modules in a system that only supports dual channel you will usually find that as long as there's a matched pair in the designated dual channel slots your system will show you as running in dual channel mode.

However, the third stick would remain out of dual channel mode so you only get the bandwidth benefit across the two sticks that are in the dual channel slots. Your system will still see and use the third stick as additional ram though.

This may also be motherboard manufacturer/chipset dependant though.

Ummm.
If ONKYO stuff is so good why are the shops having to sell it at bargain basement prices to shift stock?
i.e. Loads of deals on this site for ONKYO but not as many for the mainstream brands

I wish I had the money to think £220 for a 2.1 system was a bargain! The normal price is about £230 for this, so its not a huge bargain. It is however cheaper than I've seen this for months, I've been on the verge of buying it for a long time. Plenty 5.1 systems from bigger brands available for under £100, or is that not a bargain?

Previously bought this one ages ago, great monitor, wish I had space for duel monitors. hot
Its fantastic ukez. Bezel is perfect, I would definitely recommend it. Not as thin as I thought it'd be but still great.
Yes 1.5% returned however after some heavy persuasion :(

The back of the SCAN monitor more smooth and I also think it has touch buttons. This deal has actual buttons. I prefer the SCAN stand but overall, happy with the price and product(without actually having it).

Did your one turn up yet, if so what's it like?? how think is the bezel and did you get your debit card 1.5% back?

So i took the plunge and bought one - £132 delivered from eBuyer as of writing. I know people with larger monitors (and indeed whenever I hoo kmy PC upto my 26" bedroom TV) and I have to pan my head around to use it. This seems just the right size, and its about as clear as I was expecting. Looking good next to my new speakers also:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Genius-SP-HF1800A-Wood-Hi-Fi-Speakers/dp/B004XB1MW2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1315436208&sr=8-1

Thanks again mamboboy in particular for your help with this.
Hey thanks both for the really informative info, repped :)
These will be sort of in between. This monitor is E-IPS (Economy-IPS) as opposed to a regular, more expensive IPS monitor - it's only a 6-bit panel, as opposed to a true IPS' 8-bit (these matter because it's how many million colours it can display - you'll get smoother tonal transition of colours on an 8-bit screen). So in other words it won't have the colour spectrum of an iMac. Saying that, the difference between this and a regular TN panel monitor will be night and day.
Also another reason iMac's are so nice to look at is because of the glass front of them, which makes blacks look even blacker due to the light refraction.

If you want to match the iMac's quality you'll need to get a Hazro HZ27WC. Expensive, but still excellently priced compared to any other 27" IPS screen on the market.

I'd save up for it personally, it's the same panel as the 27" imac so you can't go wrong really!

Hey mamboboy,

Can I ask (and you may have no idea here, but you seem very knowledgeable so here goes) please how do these LG monitors (this one and IPS231P-BN) compare to the iMac screens please? Never seen anything as vibrant and realistic as an iMac, just wondering if I can expect near that kind of quality with either of these LG's. Currently rocking a basic Acer X193HQ so I'm hoping the LG is closer to the iMac end of the scale. Cheers.
