Just bought myself a nice big TV and came across this. Seems a nice easy way to mount to the wall! RRP is supposed to be around £100, but this is a discontinued model... Hopefully it still works thou…

one of the best things about larger rail type brackets is that if you mess up one drill hole you still have plenty of other choices, this looks like all the holes are going to be closer together.

Always with drilling, employ the best drill you can, I now use an SDS drill, the bits go in like butter, so much easier to start slowly.

simple way to do it is to use better screws and and plugs not sure exactly how you would "mess up" a drill hole.

It's easy to mess up drilling a hole if the wall isn't sound. Sometimes it happens if you clip the corner of a brick and the bit wanders off course.

that's why you still a smaller guide before moving onto your 10mm bit.

why would anyone want a suspension TV mount when brackets are cheaper and stronger, b and m do some good ones and I've never had any problems with them.

No it's not, they are both LEDW120 and if you read the description, not the heading you will see they are both the same.

i have one of these type of wall fittings for my 49" tv.
fantastic and super strong as long as you use good quality screws/plugs.

These are waste of money, you are better off spending a bit more and buying a Chinese copy of branded stuff. Alot of them are quality stuff, I bought a Fancier WF-531B not long ago for £25 delivered, fantastic tripod for the money, well made, aluminium, light and sturdy and the ball head is really smooth. Not sure how durable they will be but for they money they are great.

Heres the one I bought: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fancier-WF-531B-Compact-Quality-Pro-Light-Travel-Tripod-DSLR-Camera-Ball-Head-/111037588964?pt=UK_Tripods_Monopods&hash=item19da5b25e4
That is 3 times the price of this tripod, where is the deal?

That's not the point. Cheap tripod cheap price. Not saying spend loads is best but I wouldn't trust any camera with something at this price
You'd trust it if the price went back to £47 I imagine.

What else do you imagine?

I paid £35 for a tripod and I don't need to ask if it's worth it, listen to people say they aren't stable etc. It isn't worth skimping on some things. £10 for a tripod? Pah
Is it a better tripod now the price has gone up more?

You sound like a guy in the pub who always has to be right. In this case you're wrong buddy. I chose not to order any of these hama Starr things, whatever the price
Nah mate, I've got one and know what it's like and you're just telling people not to buy it because it's on special offer when you haven't even seen it.

Don't mate me, lol. If your budget doesn't stretch then this is an OK tripod, with the assumption you have a sub £100 camera. Anything more you should consider is worth saving money on such a vital accessory?

I myself was looking for a tripod and on a budget, was going to get a RS284+3 way head(60) before I saw the fancier tripod.
So how do you rate the Fancier then?

Fantastic tripod for the money, my only one concern would be the durability of some of the clips, but not too worried as it seems generally fine, and am not a heavy user of tripod either, otherwise I would of spend more money on something better, but as far as well featured and stable budget tripods go, this is the best I have come across...

That is 3 times the price of this tripod, where is the deal?

Not supposed to be a deal, just pointing out you can spend a little extra and buy 10x the tripod. Your better off spending an extra 20 quid, than wasting a tenner on a tripod that turns out to be pants and then spending more to buy a better one.
Have you owned this one or are you guessing it's no good

Not the 63 no but the 61, pretty much same tripod apart from extra features like spirit level and longer height, and they are rubbish, unstable, flimsy build, can't hold a telephoto, if you are into any sort of photography or video etc then these are a waste of money, if your not then you will find them adequate.

You can probably find one 3 times the price of that which is better too.

Which will be 6 times the price of the hama which wasn't the point I was making. In the real world, if your a keen amateur photographer on a budget and want a decent tripod then more than likely you will have a budget up to £50 in which case you would be looking at stuff like starter redsnapper and slik tripods, the tripod I was referring to is very similar to them, I would call them a copy, but at half the price, so your getting a good quality stable tripod that is only a little bit more than the useless flimsy hama. I know how I would rather spend my money!
Why up to £50? Some people spend a lot more than that and would consider something at £50 as useless junk.

This was on Amazon for £47 originally. I own both this and a cheap £10 jobbie. This one is MILES ahead, it feels more like a £30 to £40 tripod compared to the others that go for a tenner. If people think this is unstable junk they should look at what you normally get for this price, they're not even comparable.

50 pounds is around average for people on a budget if people are spending more than they aren't people on a budget. I myself was looking for a tripod and on a budget, was going to get a RS284+3 way head(60) before I saw the fancier tripod. The redsnapper is a top quality tripod, the difference between that and a 10 quid hama is night and day.

I can tell you the star 63 is not a 40 quid tripod, hence why they can sell them for 10 pound, average price for these are around the 15 quid mark, only reason why they are few quid more than star 61 is a few more feature, the RRP listing on amazon means nothing, every product has that and its just a recommended price by manufacturer and not the actual price of the item, just used for marketing purposes on websites. Whilst you may happy with it, if you want to do anything more advanced they it wont be very good, otherwise everyone would be rolling around in a ten quids worth of tripod.

Am not telling people not to buy this, clearly it will serve a purpose for some people, as a cheap tripod for basic cameras and basic tasks it will do the job fine, but if you plan on doing fancy stuff on a dslr and using heavy telephoto lens then look elsewhere.

Hama Star 63 Tripod with Carry Case £10.50 @ Amazon

Am happy with mine. At £10.50 delivered it was a bargain!
Got my tripod today. Pretty surprised at the quality of it, wasn't expecting much but its clearly several levels above my old £15 one. Much bigger and thicker legs, the head part is bigger and much nicer to use, legs have a swivel thing on the bottom to stand on uneven surfaces, has the hook to attach a weight, spirit levels, a handle to lift and move it while it's set up, etc. Most importantly it just feels so much more solid and stable than my old one. Overall feels like it cost more like £40 than a tenner.

Only slightly bad thing I've noticed so far is the tilting action doesnt tighten fully, it stiffens up and is tight enough to hold my camera without moving around but perhaps if you have a really heavy telephoto lens then it might tip forward. Although those lenses cost so much you'll probably invest a lot more than £10 in a tripod.

Do you still get cashback on the 3100? Amazon's warehouse page says you do but Nikon say you don't on graded stock
