I just came across this while hunting for some more memory for my Dell E520 machine.

Exactly the same price as 1gb Kingston RAM for my laptop ironically once you take into account Google!

Seems around the cheapest I can find for this RAM?

looking 2 spend less than £700

I guess that would be like lightening fast with 4gigs
what processor would be used? I guess an E6420 or better cos AMD still use 90nm so it runs hotter i believe

id probs buy that 8800GTS for like £150 when it gets back on

id get an install guide with vista i hope cos ive never done it b4
any mobos u can reccomend (they all have the stuff i want above £60)

what brands of hard drive are good?

thanx in advance:thumbsup:

also no offense to the other guy(coakley9) but it did seem strange

Just to repeat what's been pointed out many times before:

To upgrade RAM on an E520, you have to put RAM sticks in in pairs - i.e. if you want to add 1GB, you have to fill both empty slots with 2x512mb

There is no point upgrading beyond 3GB - Vista will not recognise 4GB of RAM (no 32-bit operating system will) and so you'll be wasting money.

A 4300 Allendale Core2Duo should do you fine. At £65. Bargain.

An Nforce 650 board should be cheap enough and give you all the features you could possibly need.

All brands of hard drives are fine, typically I would go for Western Digital, Seagate or Samsung. Should all be fine. Sata2 obviously.

i also have an e520 with 2* 512mb , looking for 2 more 512's . any cheap ones going??

Be warned the factory RAM in my Dell E520 are PC4200, hence unless they are removed the RAM in this post would only run at the PC4200 speed.

i was under the impression that the e520's had pc5300 ram in there.

Is this not if you want to run the memory in dual channel? Surely putting in 1 more stick would still work, if only in single channel mode?

Ignore that, found out you need to install in pairs for Dual Core processors. It's like going back to simms! Does that mean with quad core processors we will need to install memory in 4s?!? :-)
