CAS Latency CL5 is quite high = slower. But maybe not notice. CAS latency measures how many clock cycles the memory takes to access the data. For CAS 5 you wait 5 clock cycles for the data, the average used to be 2.5. 2 and under is better.

CL5 is normal for laptop memory at 667MHz; I’m not sure you can even buy faster!

CL2 refers to DDR whereas this is DDR2 which has looser timings but the much faster frequency negates this drawback.

For latency - DDR2-800 CL4 = DDR400 CL2

I got this for my wife's cheapy laptop that only came with 512mb of ram, it's a great deal for laptop ram, to think it cost about 5 times more not that long ago.

If you have a slowish lappy, grab a stick of this and watch the improvement.

Their postage is also very fast (and free)!.

Apologies, I thought this was direct from Crucial's website - didn't read deal properly!

So, to save postage goto Crucials site - the cost is almost identical from memory (excuse the pun).

Further to above, and a correction, it's 25.84 from Crucial direct, but I guess at least you don't have to spend 50 notes to get free P&P.

I purchased simillar spec memory for my T60. I got it new from Ebay for 22£. It was a lessor known make.
#6
Can this memory be added to a laptop that already has 1Gb of memory?

A slightly better deal for roughly the same price (for those that have free delivery) is THIS from Scan.
1GB Infinion, DDR2 SO-DIMM PC2-5300 (667), 200 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12

It's the only 667Mhz SODIMM I could find that had CAS4 rather than the usual CAS5. You can get CAS4 and CAS3 but you have to drop down to 533Mhz.

You don't however get the Crucal name and reputation but I've never had any problems with the lesser branded memory..YMMV

I ordered it with an Iomega 500gb external drive (don't want iTunes taking over my laptop) so I saved the postage.

Happy days.

I ordered this for my Apple Macbook.

Great buy.

I have a Samsung R70:

http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/mobilecomputing/rseries/np_r70a001suk.asp?page=Specifications

Can it take another 1gb of memory and is it easy to install?
#15
It depends how much memory you already have installed. The page below says you have 2 available memory slots, so provided you have an empty slot, you're fine.

Guaranteed Compatible memory upgardes for Samsung NP-R70

If you don't know, try the Crucial System Scanner. It identifies what is currently installed as well as giving the above recommendations.

I installed 4 GB memory in my Dell, running Vista Premium (32 bit). Afterwards, I found out that my version of Vista will not use more than 2 GB memory! You have to upgrade to 64-bit Vista to use RAM above 2 GB. So, be warned, they don't tell you about this when your computer is checked for compatability.............

Windows Vista 32bits allows to allocate up to 3.2GB of RAM, not 2GB and that's because the limitations of 32bits systems. Even if you have a 64bits operating system you might not be able to allocate the 4GB of RAM, if your chipset doesn't support them. With laptops, only the latest Santa Rosa platform accepts 4gb of ram, but is still dependent on the BIOS of your laptop (there are reports of laptops with Santa Rosa not being able to use the 4GB).

I have a 640m with 1GB or ram (two 512mb sticks) and no slots free.

Will this stuff fit the 640m and how difficult is it likely to be to remove the two 512mb sticks and replace them with two 1GB sticks?

any one knows that this can be used in
Dell Inspiron 500m Laptop/Notebook?
