I already have 4 X 256MB installed in my DELL PC - in the 4 slots available. If i remove 2 X 256 to locate the 2 X1GB, will leaving the 2 x 256mb make any diffence - better or worse. ie I'll have 2.5 GB

telboy, first make sure your PC will take a single 1Gb module. Use their System Scanner tool (or do a manual search if it doesn't work).

Secondly, if you have XP, going for 1Gb extra should be more than sufficient for a good boost (may not run in dual-channel, but it probably won't matter anyway). On the other hand, Vista will do nicely with 2-2.5Gb.

If all you do on your PC is basic stuff: websurfing, basic photo-editing/word-processing, & similar - it probably won't help very much to add more memory (unless it's Vista maybe?). For a free boost lower performance settings, defrag your drive & do some disk-cleaning instead.

Thanks for your helpful replies guys. I do a fair bit of photo editing, playing music at the same time, so I'll give it a go.

Damn, very good price, I'd definitely buy two of these if my motherboard supported DDR2.

The cheapest DDR 1GB memory is £35 :x
