Bargain, decent drives. I did have one fail after a year and a half but Crucial's warranty service was great.

Pretty much how I felt after upgrading to SSD:

amazon returns are disgusting at best, after 28 days they tell you your warrannty is now passed to the manufacturer.

you think thats a good warranty?

shocking, went to kingston to Send back 3 out of 5 faulty SSD Drives, they said no - deal with your retailer, 20 calls later amazon aggreed to take them back, this is the worstt ever customer service i have emcountered, still waiting for replacements or refund, been 3 months of crap now....... great customer service.. NOT

THE REASON IT TOOK 20 phone calls is their call centre is not in the UK and the poor people they employ for 20p an hour in india cant speak hardly any english and clearly fear for their jobs every time you call! Slave labour at its worst.

shocking retailer, shocking customer service, dont pay UK tax, many reasons not to buy from Amazon but we will like sheep follow them cos they are usually the cheapest - now i know why.

no morals - all they care about is being the lowest price.

Trolling I think as I've returned multiple items to amazon over the years, months after purchase with no issue. Full refunds each time and free return postage. All it takes is a brief chat on their live chat and an explanation on the issue. Free collect+ return and expedited return of funds so you can buy a replacement before you return. Genuinely the best return policy of any online only retailer.

I've a feeling that Amazon will be able to repeat their Black Friday Lightning deals on the MX100 256GB in January - £69.99 for 256.

Might be worth waiting for those who can.

EDIT - Meant £59.99 for 256

Last time both eBuyer & Amazon had the M500 at this price I was able to get Flubit to quote decent discounts quite easily - I got them to quote against both and they came back with £57.95 and £57.75 respectively.

That coincided with Black Friday and I took neither offer as Amazon Lightning were selling the MX100 256GB for £59.99. As suggested above, I think Amazon will repeat that in the 'January sales'......there wasn't just 1 Lighning opportunity, there were about 5, so they seemed to have a substantial stock!

Ditto, bought one at last year black friday ( Due to my, let say overzealousness, l managed to break it) one chat to a rep later, a replacement was sent before returning the damaged one.
Yes, Amazon anyday for returns.

For an extra £20 the Samsung Evo does seem to have much better write speed. Or is this BS? NB. for a Win7 system drive.

Amazon want to monopolise online retailing. That's why I'll always choose an alternative when there is one available.

It is better but £20 is an extra 30%, and its unlikely you'll be too aware of the difference on writes. Do you expect to be writing lots of large data files to it? Most people just use an SSD to speed up load times, which is all read!

Agreed they're good, but I hate that they're basically running everyone out of business. It's not because of a genius work ethic, its because you can charge significantly less if you don't pay tax and pay people poorly.

Thanks OP and Chanchi32. Just got this for £59.98 from Amazon. I knew the Amazon vouchers from the Bespoke Offers deal would come in handy very soon, which means I effectively paid only £30. :)

It is better but £20 is an extra 30%
True, but £20 over, say, three years that I'd want from a new system drive is less than 2p a day. Might be 2p a day worth of difference.

I don't really know what to say to that, it's such an absurd way of looking at things. 30% is 30% regardless of how long you spread it over, so the question is whether it is 30% better

it sounds like your order wasn't an Amazon one but rather a 3rd party seller

Not really; equating cost to benefit over time can be a good way to determine value. If the drive was only going to last or be used for a week then the extra cost might not be justifiable.

Same here i had a 5 month old Anker 5 port charger go bad on me last week and i contacted chat and they were awesome. I got a free home pick up return, refund to my card the same day (instead of waiting for item to be returned and processed) and also with saying i want the same item they said buy one and choose the dearest delivery and they will also refund that. What more could you ask for in customer service.

And I suppose you don't use Google? or have any Samsung electronics in your house? Probably not ebem run windows? Just in case one is better and you lead to it being a monopoly?

Amazon have given me my refund or replaced goods even after the first month but then again i buy 90% of my goods from them.

I wonder if the M500 drives are old stock? I thought the MX100 drives superseded them ages ago and the M 550 drives being the higher spec. offering, or have I got that wrong?

Hot - it only because of ebuyers warranty system which hasn't failed me.

I tend to buy more important things from ebuyer ie desktop, Microserver and laser printer that kind of stuff. Amazon for everything else. on this occasion picked Amazon because of prime

oh is this drive noticeably slower than the mx100? seems odd that these drives are going up in price paid around 71 quid 4/5 months ago

Any idea if this would help a laptop that starts to overheat if too many programs are opened or when watching HD streams?

unlikely, that will be a fan/cpu issue

Sounds like you have a build-up of fluff inside which is restricting the airflow and affecting the cooling, or your fan (if fitted) is poorly/dead. Don't be afraid to remove the panels from underneath to have a look and make sure all the grills are clear. You can use a vacuum cleaner if you do see fluff.
