Not bad at all!!

How do these compare against the Samsung 840 Evo range? Look a lot cheaper!
#3
The acronis software is regarded hands down as the best by far. I just bought the Samsung 840. Whilst it's quick my perception was that the Samsung magician software would clone my Old hard drive. I was wrong so having to do a fresh install. Honestly thinking of sending it back for this. After searching days the acronis software is repeatedly mentioned as top notch vs the Samsung magician. Just my own experiences though.

I`ll do fresh install even if I might loose Steam downloaded games (I think there is way how to move them, need to google it), but I need to get rid of Win8 and get back to Win7. Can`t stand it anymore...
Other guys says when cloned u might have some trouble to run system repair in case u will need it. And there are other stories that follow this one...

Your perception may have been wrong but that's not reason to dislike the Samsung and it's not advisable/optimal to clone a HDD to a SSD anyway. Fresh install on SSD is best practice.

HOWDEY3, the Samsung drives come with excellent 'Data Migration Software' for drive cloning, in the box and available online. The Samsung Magician is for management of the drive, firmware updates etc.
I've used the cloning software a few times and it's excellent, you run it from within Windows, no booting from CD or USB.
Just run it and swap the drives over.
Edit, you need a sata to USB cable to do the cloning as I described.
I've found Clonezilla to be one of the best cloning softwares, it's free but it looks scary only using cli commands.

It tries too hard to do all jobs at once for all hardware, like touchscreen monitors and interface created for them can not be disabled in some places making menus big and taking too much precious screen space. But I`m in no need for innovation, just reliable OS for gaming rig

I would class myself as a touch over an amature but didn't have the USB cable bit (didn't get the kit version) using the data migration software for me I couldn't do jack. Couldn't transfer as the size was too large. I was (mistakenly) under the impression that I could pick and choose the parts to put on the ssd, such as windows and games to run faster. However I couldn't hence why I was a little miffed. Currently got it working after spending the evening downloading drivers etc etc. Although the magician software is great in a lot of online reviews the acronis software is the bomb. Oh and I tried clonezilla both on USB and an ISO on a disk but had errors. This SSD has put me through the mill. The only advice I will give to anyone considering this is that if you (like I wrongly thought) think it's going to be dead easy to transfer software from one to the other and really quick. It isn't. Apart from that good price for this one :) the samsung I have evo 840 is great too

Paragon Migrate OS to SSD is the best I've used where you're going from a larger HDD to smaller SSD. I had two partitions on my 640GB HDD and the OS partition nothing else would just copy it over, but Paragon did it flawlessly. If I had one 640GB partition nearly full and was trying to clone it to a 128GB SSD, well nothing is going to fix that issue :)

I'm holding out for the 1TB's

is this now linking to something else???

In the description on amazon there is no mention of the software for back up or the Norton free software.

weird but when I go to the product via hukd app on my phone I am not shown the back up software in description nor the free Norton 360 promotion!

But if I search for the same product directly on amazon on my laptop then both the back up software and the Norton promotion are shown. So bought directly on laptop after searching for product directly and not via link from the hukd app

promotion details on Amazon website clearly says promotion only applies if shown on the deal at time of purchase!

Considering I've seen Norton 360 compromised by malware on a number of occasions, you didn't miss anything.

For anyone cloning a drive 'Macrium Reflect Free' is by far the best software I've ever used. Fast and zero problems from the clone

It still shows that Norton is part of deal when checking out just one step before purchasing. True that Norton is not great but as a freebie will do for people who doesn`t browse dodgy side of internet often.
Can someone confirm that u don`t get free Norton buying SSD that I can edit info of the deal.

Avira free is better than Norton.

When I first joined my current job they had the Symantec Enterprise running on their server, thing is it was riddled with rootkits and was being used to make the network part of a botnet.

I wouldn't go anywhere near Norton, seen so many infected computers running it.

ssd's are not falling in price as fast as USB thumb drives.. not sure why !!
but this is a hot price

Cant believe how cheap these are now becoming!
#23
SSDs will only become cheaper although slower than you'd want due to supply and demand.

Firstly if you're original HDD was larger than the drive you were cloning to then generally speaking you will of course have problems. These are well known issues. Can't help from all you have said but feel the issues you have experienced are probably due to perhaps a slight lack of experience as well as misled perception. Of course there is always a first time and a learning curve for everyone.

The Crucial above is a good drive but you cannot also really fault the Samsungs nor the well thought of Migration or Magician Software.

I bought this, it includes a serial key for a migration software as well.

Working fine on my macbook pro (upgrade from samsung 830 256gb)

People saying this isn't as fast as XXX, the average consumer won't notice the difference.

Did you replace your existing hard drive with this or rip out your SuperDrive and use it as extra storage?
#32
I tried using the acronis software. Found it a nightmare, useless and impossible to properly uninstall afterwards without manually deleting everything. In the end bought a £2 cable from ebay and downloaded free cloning software.

Replace existing HDD, don't need a ton of space as I have a NAS where most data goes.

This isn't as fast as the Speed of Light ;-)

On a serous note HEAT ADDED.
I still can't get over how cheep SSDs have become.

Does this drive come with a mounting kit so you can fit it within a standard 3.5" drive bay?

I purchased the 256 SSD and Acronis True Image 2014 worked well. BUT I did have to tweak my system. I used this step by step guide. LINK http://www.computing.net/howtos/show/solid-state-drive-ssd-tweaks-for-windows-7/552.html

I don't think that Acronis is included anymore.
