Can I point out that the Oak, is going to be just Oak veneer over a particle board of some sort, probably MDF, and the chairs are almost certainly made of rubber wood with some sort of "oak finish" M&S had a great deal earlier in the year on solid Oak, posted on this forum. It will probably come round again.

i bought this from homebase last month, (delivered by an argos truck)
they had 25% off all dining room tables and chairs and i bought it on the first may bank holiday weekend when it was 10% off everything in store. it cost £196 delivered.
check if they still have their offer on dining room furniture,
its a bood sturdy table, my only complaint is that there is no catch to keep the two extendable section together,
my 4 year old thinks its funny to pull them apart.

ahhhhhh someone else who has actually bought the table, thats what i was looking for, just wanted to know if the table was sturdy and was going to last. does it mark easily or anything or is there any other complaints bar the catch? are the chairs sturdy?
although your slightly deviant child actually sounds quite funny!

had it for 2 weeks and only a few marks on it which is good cause i have had a party in the house and used it to serve all the grub.
the chairs are the sturdiest i have found for this price bracket,
thats one of the reasons i bought it.
its i great little table and easily constructed too.

Thanks chumsut - went and looked at it in homebase last night (didnt even realise they sold it) but i was quite impressed with it, bit smaller than i wanted but it looks to be quite well made and sturdy and for that price looks like i have found myself a table and chairs :)
thanks for your help!!!
