Just posting this as a heads up. Curry's will be selling games (older titles) on all format priced at 97p on Sunday. So worth a trip down to Curry's early morning to check it out. I saw this on MSE so relaying the message so hope no one misses out on this.

One person had experience with this 97p clearance day before and this is what he said, "Previously Currys have always activated game clearance prices on a Sunday. I remember the last one i knew of, i went to my local small store 15mins prior to opening, and through the window i could see the manager and 3 members of staff with all the clearance games on the counter, choosing which ones they wanted and putting them in carrier bags for paying when they opened. I managed to get a few bargains, and i guess staff must get their perks somehow, but i thought they could have closed the shutters, instead on having my drooling, outside watching them."

Curry's might also be selling their remaining stock on their website on Monday. Anything ending in 97p is a clearance item.

UPDATE: The Clearance price is not stickered on the games. You need to bring it to the till for a price check!

HOPE EVERYONE GRABBED SOME NICE DEALS!

Here is a summary of all the games we have managed to get 97p on. Try again if you couldn't get it that that price today so you might be able to grab that tomorrow. Also, some users have reported 3 for 2 on games so the deal keeps getting cheaper and cheaper!

Hmmmm.

Last time I tried to buy a game listed on here for 97p, the guy in CURRYS said that was as priced (angling the monitor away from me as I went to peer round). I said never mind and offered to put the game back and he said no he would do it later.

I walk off to look at TV's, with a suspicion that he was lying to me. I look around and he's writing a label, sticking it on the game and stashing it under the counter.

Maybe I'm paranoid but the staff in these stores seem to just do what they please and get away with it.

Just my experience and my 2c.

:whistling:

As with any store, the staff will have first crack at clearance items so worth it go and see what's there to pick up.
#4
Might be worth a look in the morning then!
#5
Did you not call him out on it infront of the manager? I would of, and very loudly! i better not go tomorrow. Lets just say this isn't my friendliest time of the month! Still voted hot and rep given :)
#6
HOT because of the simple fact you said this was from MSE and did not try to claim it as your own info.

I will be there at 9am. i'm kind of doubtful they will have these games out, there is a lot of young clerks in my local store, but i'll see.
#7
I know this might sound like a supid question but how do you know what games are reduced, as they are not the best for correctly price marking their games, or the most helpful once your in the store??
#8
im going to take a whole stack to the checkout. if they say some stupid price like 92quid, i'll just ask how much they are. failing that, price check everything. thats what they are there for
#9
Could be a hot deal have to wait and see.....

As for Currys staff, I too have had a few problems in the past!
#10
Yeah there seems to be a bit of repetition appearing here but i too have had bad run-ins with these staff, i consider them to be complete bankers!
#11

I will be there at 9am.

My nearest currys open at 11am. You might want to check yours too. :)

Well thanks 4 telling me. I just put my hat and scarf on getting ready to go now
#13
open at 11!

I would have been waiting for a long time!

A few things in defence of Currys staff - yes, some of them are bankers, but some are also informed, impartial and helpful and yes, I do think that the staff should have first pick of the deals. FFS, they work long hours for ****** pay, so what if they get a few items on the cheap. That said, I wouldn't stop other people buying them first, thats just rude.

Oh, and there are a few PS2 games kicking about at 1p, but they have no instructions, no boxes and tbh, the only way you'll get one of them is to have a staff member on your side. (I know, I have 4 of them here).

you have four members of staff at your side??? Dude, you have to let them go...they have work at 11 :p
#16
havent you ever been into a currys store on a sunday morning - half the staff will be hungover and the other half will be hiding in the warehouse looking for clearance bargains. :-)
#17
Personally, if I worked @ Curry's pr Dixons etc there would NEVER be any cheap, good games in my store as I would have them all, I actually managed to snipe an awful lot of games away from the guy who works @ Comet by sitting on the net all night whilst the prices were changing.
But I wholly agree with staff getting 1st refusal on the games in store, they earn a pitance and should be allowed to get some kind of retribution out of their useless employers!

Same thing happened in Currys with hair straighteners not long ago, very good brands and models, all 99p :|

My mate who works there bagged a couple and said literally every customer buying anything picked up a hair straightener or two no matter their age or sex, the whole pile was gone in the matter of an hour.

dude, calm down. Noone is saying they can't have them.. i think what they're getting at is swindling words and store policys so you dont buy it and they can have it.

If they want it, i'm sure they will put it aside before opening. many years back when i worked in a DVD store and spotted a bargain.. under the till shelf it went. saved.
#20
So whats the likelihood this would include some older but still decent/average 360 or even ps3 games? If there is no chance, then I'll save myself a trip in the car to Currys tomorrow (especially if the staff is gonna snaffle any good ones up, which is fair enough as they work there).
#21
are we talking PS2 and XBOX or are there likely any 360 games?
#22
dcx_badass
My currys store also lie about the price and put them under the counter to buy themselves later.
PC World do it aswell, to the extent that they call my house telling me my reserved items are out of stop and not to go and get them. Yet I went to the store anyway, and they were in stock(I got the last two of them), so obviously someone hoped I would not go after the call, then they could get them theirselves.

Sorry to quote you dcx_badass. But I just want to say that I am a former Currys employee and I know how the 97p works. The first point I would like to make is that yes staff want the "cheap games" to themselves. However DSG have certain rulings which mean staff cannot sell them on for a profit against the company. Also if you do pick up a game and it comes up as 97p on the system then there is no reason for the staff not to sell it to you.

ffs ill decide

free games for all

Pure DICKS...the staff in Tottenham Hale Retail Park are dumber then they look, ignorenet and unhelpfull...

Why do people still buy from retail shops when it's 25% more expensive then intenret shops...

I was absaloutly shocked today when i walked into Zavvi (Virgin megastores), they are selling Foroza Sport 2 for £50 F**king POUNDS!! and it's part of a buy one get one free game, which all cost £50!!

i mean jesus, this game is selling for £9.99 in argos!! they are robbing people blind, currys, commet, dixons etc...

I SAY TO HELL WITH RETAIL SHOPS... A PERFECT EXAMPLE, i bought a Samsung 42" plasma screen online for £655 inv vat + del.

it's over £750+ anywhere else in retail stores. STOP BUYING FROM SHOPS! LET THEM ALL CLOSE DOWN SO WE CAN BULID MORE HOUSES AND USEFULL LAND!

dcx_badass
I've seen them over-ride the price so the 97p game is £25 before. If you argue they just deny it, it's not worth the effort. If they want it themselves they'll get it in the end.

Just say 'scan it again!

lol its 97p! Worth a shot to check it out either way. I don't see games sold online for 97p much.

Just don't know if they will put the games out right when they open or what. Deciding when is the perfect time to get there.
#28
i would say ANY 360 game for 97p is worth it. some charity shops, the VHS tapes are more expensive. I wouldn't be too picky.

If you're going to slate how expensive retail outlets are it would probably have been better not to quote the Argos price for comparison. Do you really think anyone picking up some 97p games are going to be lining Currys pockets?
#30
I can't see any mention of what games have been reduced so here are a few that were posted by steveo (works for currys) on the avforums.

Ridge Racer 6
Tony Hawks American Wasteland
King Kong
Tiger Woods 06
Full Auto
Just Cause
(possibly)

Has anyone else got a list of games or do we all have to just basically pick the games up and get them scanned

Curry's have these 'Sales' reguarly, guaranteed that one or two will get a bargain, but this thread will be full of disappointed HUKD'ers later. :)

They will usually not be marked up at a sale price.
#33
So is this going to be worth driving 16 miles+ in to town for? or am I going to be VERY dissapointed when I get there?

Mike..
#34
And is this going to apply at PC World to as they are part of the same group?

Don't bother making a special trip, I will be having a look in because I will be at the same retail park as Curry's later on.

Hope for the best and expect the worst with Curry's. :)

- Because they need things urgently and can't wait for delivery? Also, with reference to this post, what 'internet shop' is selling games for 74p?:w00t:

Nope, they will more than likely only have a label saying a member of staff's name on it :)
Do we have any idea as to which games *may* be reduced in price yet? I know there were a few possible 360 titles a page or so back, but any others?

Mike..

Not always. Often they are in a basket labelled clearance but may still be stickered at £5.00 - £20.00 . Price check those you are interested in at the till.

i went into currys the other day to price match graw against comet next door in eastbourne, currys was 24.99 and comet was 4.99 so with 10% on the diff was 2.97 but currys staff walked next door to comet and said they couldnt price match as comet didnt have the game in stock :?.
I went in comet to buy a hob and whilst there i saw 2 copies of graw on the shelf and they scanned in at 4.99:x omfg they blatantly lied to me anyone would think the diff came out of there own pocket, that was also the second time i had problem with currys and the staff.:lazy: this is a picture of one of their staff
