The opening of the Birmingham mega-store had such good offers people were taking TVs out of other shoppers trolleys!
So have an armed guard standing by your purchase at all times ;-)

Can imagine the queues so I won't bother. Good deal for those willing to get there at something silly like 5am and wait it out.

I'll bet the problem there is people sticking them in the trolley then walking off leaving the trolley with the TV in. Seen similar happen at loads of sales, people look at the unattended trolley/basket and assume its either been left there or the stock has been put there waiting to go onto the shelf. Only an idiot leaves such things unattended!

It was carnage at the wednesbury opening 12 months ago, The chaos was that bad that the police had to close the exit slip off the nearby motorway because of the trouble. That said i did get a 42" toshiba for £279 ;-)

Wow gonna be some decent bargains by the sound of things but 6am.....I would need a guarantee of getting something to be there at that time lol

the opening of Wednesbury store 12 months ago was great...although i did not bother in the first two days because of the queues..i went on the third day and there were still some good offers...I bought 3 Canon D450 SLR cameras for £330 each (the ongoing price till now is around £480)..claimed £50 cashback on each of them from canon so each cost £280 and then sold two on ebay for around £400 each...i was kicking myself for not buying more as there were at least 20 on the shelf and people were not bothered as they were all after TVs:thumbsup:

jeeez, face looooong traffic queues in the hope of getting one of a small no of bargain deals. Would love the deals, just not the hassle

Sounds like we need to sponsor someone to sit out all night to get a lorry load of stuff - oh wait, some will be doing that anyway ;(
#10
The store is already open (I went in last weekend) but I assume the 'grand' opening is still to come

Wednesbury - me and my sister queued up from 10pm - 7am and the police were called out because the security was rubbish and people were pushing in the queue,

Still got 2 TV's, 2 PS3's and a £15 snooper satnav. Sold one of the TV's and PS3's to mates (still at less than RRP) and sold my old 32in Samsung so got my current 46in 1080p for free :) It was about £500 in the sale I think. And using the satnav everyday.

Never again though. We criticise people pushing in the queue in 3rd world countries when trying to get food handouts. These were adults doing worse just for cheap tv's!

PS, was same satnav and it broke. Went back to Currys who were unable to replace (just give me my £15 back) but I contacted Strabo who sorted it for free.

6am lol, you'll need to be there at 6pm the night before to guarentee a bargain, So when you factor 2 days lost wages into the price then your not really saving that much.

To answer your question, the Toshiba is better. The link you sent me didnt work, not even with Dell written in instead of ***** but I've take a look at the dell range of laptops you were talking about. They are all overpriced. The Toshiba has a bigger screen, bigger hard drive and a better processor. Its just the Dell may be more 'cool' because of their expensive advert. It is an awesome price in my opinion.

Both the laptops will run your standard applications, play DVDs, can surf the web, do basic image editing and can handle most games as long as they are on low settings or are older games (due to all laptops in the home use / office use categories having only standard underpowered graphics cards).

You won't find better for £300 I don't think, not brand new, top branded with operating system

I thought the Toshiba came with a sempron CPU?
http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/series/Satellite-L450D-113/1075520/AddID/1075573/

0.5mb L2 cache is not worth looking at...
#23
can you pick up that laptop for me , ta :P
#24
The laptop sucks speed wise, the budget AMD sempron CPU is an awful performer, not even comparable to current low end intels. Any Core 2 Duo or Pentium Dual Core intel laptop will be significantly quicker in the CPU stakes.

You can see a benchmark for the chip here, in comparison with a slew of other mobile and desktop processors. The 'medium' charts here include most of the current laptop chips available - curent intel laptop chips mostly start off with T something, e.g. T5850, T3000, T3200, all on that list.

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=AMD+Sempron+SI-42

This sempron SI 42 is on there... you just have to scroll down the page a long, long way :)

Having said that, £299 for any toshiba is good, they do tend to be more hard wearing than other brands, e.g. Acer. If speed really isn't an issue and you only have £299 to spend, then you could do worse.
#25
I'd look at getting this Acer instead:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/174201

£10 more for a vastly faster CPU. You lose out on RAM and hard drive, and would have to upgrade to win 7 yourself (acer offering a free upgrade program, but would still take time to do), but I really wouldnt wanna be lumbered with that Sempron CPU.
#26
Wouldn't the celeron 2ghz Asus 58L at 200 quid be faster......
300 quid is a bit high...i mean at 379 u can get dual core Dell studio from carphone....with HDMI not sure if its still available.
#27
Does it say on the flyer when the sale ends? i've been looking for a 37 inch tv for under £300 for a while now, but not worth a classic Leeds stabbing whilst I wait.

It'll end about 20 mins after store opens mate - once they've all gone then that's it.

They buy them cheap to advertise the new store.
#29
has anyone got the stores address?

Why would a 2ghz celeron be faster than a 2.1ghz pentium? Celeron are the budget chips, pentium dual core the mid range and core 2 the high end, when it comes to current chips (the names have been re-used a lot). The 2.1 T4300 = faster.
#33
Oh nevermind, faster than the SI42, yes, if its current range. There have been a few generations of laptop celeron chips, if its an older one it might be closer.
#34
just been into the store and they said they are having 200 of them tvs for sale. also other offers on tvs, lots of lg 32" lcd tvs currently marked up at £349 possibly going down, but literally hundreds of big LCD tvs stacked up everywhere. store looks amazing. Noticed stacks of mac computers in the apple area and some printers, so looks to be a good opening offers day. just feel a tad sorry for comet who are bang next door, ha ha.

easy peasy to get to just get off at Junction 27 M62 and head down to batley on A62, its about 1 minute from motrway exit if that.

From what i read on the leaflet the Toshiba is a Sempron core which is budget and behind the Celeron-M. For another 50 quid u could get dualcore t4300 as you say.

got the laptop and a few camera's + 320gb personal hardrive

laptop was £300(they made a mistake in the advert, it only came with a 250gb hardrive), £342 at pixmania
fuji z33wp black at £100 (cheaper on ebay)
fuji j25 silver at £50 (cheaper on ebay)

and the only other things that were cheap-ish are:
