Beat the crowds and treat yourself for Currys web sale starts at 7pm on Christmas Eve.
Spend over £50 and get free delivery until midnight 25th December.
Sure there will be some bargain to pick up.

I already have my eye on the Samsung GX10 digital SLR with 18-55 mm lens.

http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1622856649.1198373434@@@@&BV_EngineID=cceladdmldggfdjcflgceggdhhmdfog.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=567227&category_oid=-33716

Already on sales now with £70off at £429.99, with free delivery and 5% off code = £408.49 delivered (potentially ~£388 with 5% quidco)
The cheapest I can find elsewhere is £429 + Delivery

Samsung have their £50 cash back scheme extended till end of Jan 08, work out to be £358.49 (potentially £338) final price, thats a very good price for an awards winning DSLR with weather proof body. Canon, Sony, Nikon and Olympus DSLR with weatherproof body cost over £800.

p.s: Though you will need to claim the £50 cash back from Samsung not Currys.

Any codes going to be available?

I got 10% off & free delivery on my plasma tv last year.

It'll be a combination of Curry's special magic I assume :

1) Price establisment - things which were bumped up in price over December being knocked back down to their original price.
2) Pathetic stock levels, leaving THOUSANDS of customers (I've seen 4000+ customers waiting for a single model of TV before) on 'forward order' for stock which may not arrive, while holding onto their money, and constantly telling them that stock would arrive the next day, when actually stock didn't even exist. (Note that the information is supplied to the shop floor staff so don't blame them when the stock doesn't turn up, they are lied to by HO)

Sorry but I used to work for Currys before they closed our store and made us redundant, and I'm sure people can get better deals elsewhere. I won't vote this COLD because it's really my opinion, but after having worked for them, I wouldn't trust them. Even the Christmas offers that made the paper were EXACTLY the same items as last year, once again they were doubled in price for 30 days, and then knocked down again to create the impression of a 50% saving.

I picked up a small Scalextric for £30 (was RRP of £60) and it was the cheapest price of anywhere. However I do agree that unfortunately your comments can be applied to pretty much any retailer :(

If you find items you bought recently @ currys , now on sale at a lower price, go back and get the difference refunded.

I spoke to my friend in Currys and have been reliably told that the sale will start instore on Christmas eve, they have a night shift in the night before setting it up, so may be worth bearing in mind!

What about the EOS 400D I think this also comes with £50 cashback and is no more expensive for what is perhaps a better camera

What about the EOS 400D I think this also comes with £50 cashback and is only slightly more expensive for what is allegedly a better camera

Disagree on your evaluation of the cameras. The Samsung GX-10 is a rebadged Pentax K10D which certainly is a better camera than the Canon 400D. I plumped for the more expensive K10D over any Canon or Nikon model due to the abundance of features, non-plasticky feel, brightness of viewfinder, weather sealing etc. It is in my opinion a semi-pro DSLR, whereas the Canon is more of a beginner DSLR.

The most important thing I would say though is to handle a range of cameras - how the camera fits in your hand and how you like the interface/setup is an extremely important thing to consider.

At this price with rebate, the GX-10 is an excellent buy.

Just for info, its £415 in the sale at Dixons. Haven't done the math, but also 5% voucher available for Dixons, plus the £50 cashback scheme, but not as much cashback through Quidco.
