Profile 1.0

Profile 1.0 is the original hardware requirement for Blu-ray players and essentially meets the bare minimum for playing back Blu-ray Discs. You'll have no problem playing back a movie, listening to standard audio commentary, tracks or using interactive "pop-up" menus, but you won't be able to access advanced features like picture-in-picture video commentary or download any extra content online.
#18
Means it can't play web based content. For me, who care? Never watch those extra's much (I mean who wants to play triva games against friend on a film?). As long as I can watch the film and basic extras (like deleted scenes etc) I'm happy.

That's true - web features suck.
Who want's to download a ringtune or wallpaper?
Isn't that what your PC is for?

PIP is good; it was quite a good feature on '300'.

How about the fact that some features and downloads won't work on this machine?

Possibly even movies.

Bought one of these from ASDA , was very good for the first few days then it started to turn itself off after playing a disk for a couple of minutes :x
Then it would sometimes turn its self on and start to play :w00t:
So I took it back and was told they had no more as it was a "when its gone its gone " item.
got my money back. Bought a Technika from Tesco for £69.
Hope this is better:)
#22
will it play divx?

Don't know much about blurays, this may be a profile 1 issue;
but I bought one and only about half the blurays I rent from lovefilm work on this.

There you go then, and the others above you say it dont matter :whistling:
#26
I bought one of these from Curry's for £49.97. It feels very cheap, the picture quality was poor when i swapped my PS3 for it on a good Sony TV. The biggest problem was a constant millisecond pause every 2 seconds on every film i tried. When i put the ps3 back on, all is perfect again. I ended up returning it for a Samsung player, which Curry's did for £75.
#27
Thanx guys - question well answered :-)

You should watch the latest episode of HD Nation which talks a little bit about a similarly priced Bluray player in Walmart.

Good link, and from one of my favourite websites :)

and on the lovefilm not working note, i am yet to hook it up to the internet via the ethernet and see if i can update it..it may well just have some old firmware on it...
all of the shop bought and blu rays ive borrowed do work...may be something different about rental discs?
#30
I'd be very wary of basic cheapo no-name Blu-ray players.
You need to know that the machine will continue to have firmware support just to keep on playing the discs (largely due to security issues, they can and do change the security).

The name brands can often be slow at releasing new firmwares, a no-name budget player may well get little or no on-going support at all.
#31
£75 in my store.

When I buy a dvd I watch the film - thats it. Im sure others like to watch the extras etc, but its not something I ever bother with.
As for not playing some movies, I think Im right in saying its only a few, that said I would like to ask if someone knows, If I bought a profile 1 player how long would it be before no new release films would play at all? Are we talking months, years or more?
thanks.
#33
Hot if true.

How can anyone here give you that sort of time frame?! :?

Unless of course we have some top Blu Ray company experts here, which I doubt.

If you had read the posts above ours you would of seen that people are already having problems playing discs on this heap of junk.

When it comes to technology, you get what you pay for!
#37
Well it has 12 month warranty, if it stops being able to read blu's in the next 12 months, back it go's. On top of that, it can be used as an upscaling dvd player so regardless, its not too bad.

It is. £60 for a Upscalling DVD player is stupid.

Pay an extra £40/£50 and get a samsung one, or better yet another £100 and a top of the range one.
#39
So pay double the cost or 3 times the cost? Why didn't I think of that?

Oh yeah, i'm trying to save money ;)
#40
Anyone noticed that if you zoom right in on the player in the Asda link its the BD1000 and not the 1100?!
