D-Link DNS-320 ShareCenter Pulse 2-bay (no disks) NAS Enclosure for £49.98 Delivered @ eBuyer
- NAS Enclosure for up to 4TB
- Takes 3.5" SATA drives
The ShareCenter Pulse Network Storage devices enable users to share documents and media content such as photos, music and videos on a home network or over the Internet. File access is easy and straightforward with the built-in web file server, which allows you to browse and download your stored files over the Internet.
The ShareCenter Pulse has a Gigabit port for the fastest connectivity possible to your home network through your router. RAID 1 technology ensures that your valuable data will not be lost by mirroring the contents of one hard drive onto the other, so if one drive files, your data is still safe.
Its built-in UPnP media server will stream the media content in your ShareCenter Pulse to any compatible media player - such as the PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and D-Link Boxee Box - over your local network. ShareCenter Pulse allows for multiple simultaneous streams, so you can watch a movie on your entertainment center while someone else listens to music streamed into their computer.
The confidentiality and integrity of files is guaranteed as you can give rights to specific users or groups and assign them to folders with specific read/write permissions. This function is ideal for the home, where children's access can be restricted to only age-appropriate materials, while ensuring that nobody can delete your files by accident.
The DNS-320 ShareCenter Pulse is part of D-Link Green, D-Link's program for providing eco-friendly alternatives without compromising performance: if the hard drives are not used in a configurable period of time, or data is not being transmitted, the ShareCenter Pulse will enter stand-by mode to save power. Also, the silent fan will adapt its speed depending on the hard drives temperature.

Jump to unread Post a CommentI have been looking to buy one and constant checking feedback..
The main issue with these seem to be with the media sharing and streaming aspect and they seem to by hit and miss.
I have purchased one of these and several cheap HDD's kept failin or not work at great speeds.. I have since purchased 2 2tb (set up as raid 1 as a mirror backup) and has since worked perfectly as these are designed for NAS bays... Total cost £247
For £240 you can buy a buffalo link station NAS with 4tb included and has better reviews and functionality
Can you power these on when u want to use them and power them off straight after
Eg power on to stream a 2 hour film to the tv and then turn it off to watch another next day or do u have to leave them running..
I'm in need of additional storage for movies, photos and music (i have a d link boxer box in 2 rooms) and everyone recommends these over a standard portable hdd but I have no idea how to use them or used them before
Also r they secure on the network? I wouldnt want anyone on my estate to see my paper work documents, family photos and steal my purchasd films for free.
Any assistanc would b appreciated
If nothing I would rather pay £20 more for this (inc Hdd) and have the option to add an extra 2tb in the future
Also, can I connect my shop CCTV to record to this!?

In other words just a basic hd enclosure which u can connect to the network for use
The zyxel ones are better, they have similar function and same speeds (various on your own network though but both would b the same) but this has a processor to make it 'smart' power down when not in use and power up when needed, runs more smoother and can do multiple thingy more easily
A 1.25mhz processor and ram make it like a very basic NetBook speed but great for the minimum jobs it's used for
After a 2tb hdd, the zyxel works out cheaper so opt for that
(I have 4 of these and work like a dream, 2 for data and 2 for back up)
A back up is never really a back up its of the same machine.. If the whole machine goes then It can corrupt both drives hence having them all seperate
I have this, paid £52 last week and the standard software is rubbish.. So if twonky helps I would try that..
Thanks
Twonky is a media server that will stream your videos/music/images from your nas to any dlna device you have such as a boxee box or wdtv etc. works well.
Instructions here

Easy to do, just take it one step at a time twonky will run for 30 days then to keep using you need to buy a key for about £12
For a NAS storage device, can't these be powered on and off throughout the day.. E.g turn it off when I got to sleep/work and switch it on once I get home
Or does it require to stay on permanently??

Have had the netgear readynas duo for the past 2 years and never had any problems so far, comes with streaming server and bit torrent client official one, so no need to keep laptop powered, this shd take care of downloads
The one let down for me, is that you can't wake it up. You either have to turn it on manually or leave it on all the time (it will go into a low power standby mode).
For £50 though it's done me well as I had spare hard drive kicking around. It uses around 16W when running and 8W in standyby mode so it's probably not gonna cost more than £20 a year to run.
