£50 more is a lot for some people. Not everyone can afford to just write off an extra £50 just for slightly better specs on a tv.

If they can't afford an extra £50 then maybe they should reconsider spending £270

And it's not just for a "slightly better spec" - I would go for Sony reliability / quality over a rola-cola make any day.

I probably wouldn't buy the no-make, but I wouldn't play tuppence more for Sony - Where this reliability/quality thing comes from, I don't know, must be the past, but certainly the two TVs both me and my partner have previously had were neither good quality nor reliable - we were both suckered into buying into the myth. When they do go bust, repairs are astronomical, so you just roll them down to the tip :-(

That said there are plenty of other brands, and I would then also pick somewhere selling it on the mainland that you are going to be able to force into getting basic customer service from, NOT Jersey. There have been plenty of tales on here of Play.com not being very forthcoming when problems arise :-(

rgardless of the TV (i do not know so i am not voting) but beware Dabs and their shonky customer service.

To quote what i said to a mate who was considering buying the new sony media pc from them earlier today.

I wouldnt give dabs my used toilet roll let alone my money after the trouble i had with a computer case with them.

I must admit they were of no use whatsoever to me when the courier made a mess of a delivery to me they did nothing at all helpful - it didn't make me more likely to use them again!

this looks the same as my teco tl32 which has a sony panel in it bought 2 yrs ago
which has a really good pic (football is fine on it unlike all other budget makes).
But i would advise against buying from dabs as they have
no phone support now even for trade account customers

if you really can not afford the extra £50 for the superb sony v series or cant find a samsung set, mirai do a pretty good budget lcd tv which is better than many for what i needed (got for my parents but needed 1:1 pixel mapping for pc use)

still, the pic isnt as good as the sony - not even close.

I'm inclined to agree with your comments about Sony. Over the years I've had a succession of Sony products (recorders, TVs etc) and all have had reliability issues. I now avoid the brand.

I've been looking for the Sony 32V4000 to come down to under £350 for a week or so now, seems I missed out over Christmas! Is the Samsung LE32A436 just as good? Its £80 cheaper than the Sony on Play atm :O

Prices of flat panel TVs are generally going UP not down due to the fact that the pound is now only worth a brass farthing against other currencies.

I think you've missed the boat!

digimate?

looks identical to my digimate

i've had my 32" for a couple of years and, you know what? it's okay.

not cutting edge, but i watch telly for the content, not to swoon over the levels of black or marvel at the 24hz frame rate.

i have mine on a cantilever stand and it looks nice - the sound is okay and it has a perfectly decent picture

there is such a thing as a telly snob!

I ditto this comment completely. I have a Digimate that has just died a day after the yrs warranty has run out! Firstly the remote control stopped working (yes, I changed the batteries!) and so we got a replacement which cost £25. This arrived and it didnt work so I have had to send that back to the supplier to try and get a refund. Then at the weekend the picture on the TV went completely wrong and has loads of horizontal lines across the screen and shadows galore so it is quite obviously very ill. It also takes about 20 minutes once switched on for any picture to show up on the screen! Having read the horror stories about DGM servicing we decided to cut our losses and are waiting for a new TV to arrive from Play and will not touch this brand with a barge pole ever again.

true to a point BUT if for a few quid more you can get better then why not??

and 24fps is a big thing if you watch hi def stuff (HD-DVD in my case). my tv doesnt have it and the jerkyness of pan and scans is far more noticable than i would like. i wouldnt consider a set without it now.
