glad I helped someone lol
Just taken advantage of the Helmet amnesty at my local Specialized Concept store. A bargain at £85! So light and a great fit. Thanks for starting the thread as I wouldn't have known about it otherwise.

don't agree last point. but you raise va fair point in that people think nothing of spending £500+ on a mobile and contract but think £100 is far to much for something which could save your life one day!!!. im sure there are a few parents out their whos child has been injured or lost their life wishing they had "invested "in better head protection !!!!!. a phone wont protect you and will be of little use if you suffer brain damage from a collision with a car!!!
Had to actually check what a 'trax bike' was....cheap rubbish that would last 3 days in the Scottish Highlands.
"no but the £5 helmet you buy with it will offer you just as much protection as this one"

oh dear, you just don't get it, this is a helmet for proper cyclists, you don't see good runners in £10 trainers.

schwalbe marathon plus tyres are even better but about 30 quid each.
I bought some of these is 2006. Only light use, on a bike that does around 500 miles/year. But they're still in reasonable condition. Wish my road bike tyres lasted this long.
Hemisphere bundle is same price

Do we know the difference between HELIUM BIB SHORTS & HELIUM TOP BIB SHORTS ?

The website says Improvements over the standard helium bib shorts include a six-panel cut and front mesh ventilation.

So i hooked myself up with the top bib shorts and the long sleeved jersey :-)

I'm just having a bit of 'sport' as these bicycle threads usually turn into something quite amusing (though humour doesn't always translate very well on the page). I hate deliberate exercise and cycling is one of the few enjoyable ways to get fitter. Cycling to the pub offsets the first half pint and saves the driving licence too!

Looks like a decent bike at a realistic price - already voted hot!

What is the view of Giant re the value point?

Generally it's quite hard to beat a Giant in terms of value for money - they put together a decent package throughout the range whether your spending £250 on a Boulder or £5k+ on a TCR.
Sizing is a little less obvious as they use XS-S-M-M/L-L-XL and are often quite long bikes for their size, hence it's important to go to a proper shop and test ride one.
I think they use their AluXX frames right down the range now too.

I'd put their entry bikes like the Boulder and Terrago firmly in the inexpensive category, rather than cheap tat!
Can't find this deal? is it still on?

OP didn't post this as a commuter bike...he posted it because he was going to start mountain biking, which is why the pinwood was posted...As it is a mountain bike and not a commuter bike.

If people want a commuter bike that can also do light trails then they want a hybrid bike, Not this or the pinewood.

Indeed he didn't.

My point is that the Pinewood and the Hardrock don't really bear comparison as they're not really competitors on price or use.
The HR is very capable as a do anything bike - so much so that Warwickshire Police operates a fleet of them. The Pinewood with its very low gearing, slack head and 130mm fork is a niche bike with a narrower range of abilities.

Incidentally, voted hot. Good price, good kit. Find one, ride one, buy one.

Good deal voted hot.

My definition of a bike snob, is someone with the knowledge to work out the value of the individual components that make up a complete bike.

If there are any bike snobs or wannabe bike snobs looking for a quality bike at a bargain price, may I suggest they look at this.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/512000/claud-butler-pinewood-2009-399-the-

But if you're looking for a bike like the Hardrock, the Pinewood will disappoint. The Speccy is a easy-going but decent handling hardtail you could ride off-road or use around town all day long. The Pinewood (going by it's tiny gearing, relaxed head angle and 130mm fork) is more of a play bike. Different bikes for different purposes.

Like I've said before, if it's the wrong bike or the wrong size, it's not that much of a bargain.
If it fits you and is the right bike for the job, then it's an absolute steal.

When we "bike snobs" talk about inexpensive bikes, machines like this Hardrock are the kind of kit we mean. Cheap bikes are the reason many people don't enjoy cycling.

Incidentally, SBC prices are up for 2010, but the spec has, in some cases dropped. In other words - if you can find a 2009 model in your size, especially is if being discounted, snap it up.

I know how good Speccy's bikes are...

Yea, all internet orders are covered by the distance selling.

Multi-tools are usually pointless.
All you need for this bike is a 4mm and a 5mm allen key.
Keep some tyre levers and some tube patches and thats about it.
All the above in a bike bag, that fits under the saddle, and a tyre pump that should attach to the bottle cage.
From the Tredz website:

What guarantees will my product(s) have?
The same as if you bought it on the high street. It could even be argued that you’ve got more on your side thanks to the distance selling regulations. For example, you have the right to cancel your order within 7 days, starting from the day after you receive the goods. All our goods are sourced from reputable UK distributors so manufacturer warranties are honoured all the way up the line.

I'm very happy with this, i'll keep you all posted, not bothered about having next day delivery so the £10 saving will go toward a multi-tool thing (any recommendations for one of these?)
Nice find with Tredz.

Only minor points though.

When ordering, the photo of the bike is Blue, but the description is Silver, and there seems no way to change this.
You get the Warranty with the Dales version.
Dales is posted next day delivery, Tredz is an extra £10 closing the price difference.
Thanks copierking (and everyone else on this thread), Just ordered this bike from Tredz, looking at the website, looks like they pretty much fully assemble it too!

Hello everybody,
this is my maiden input to this excellent site, have made some great savings in past year and thought it was about time i registered and made some contribution.
Seriously considering buying this bike and have found it cheaper here

Cannot vouch for these guys but they are not just a web based company, they have a bricks and mortar shop too.

Nice website and some good prices on there!
