The Dark Knight On Blu-ray - £6.99 @ Amazon UK

The Dark Knight arrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralysed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.
In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director/co-writer Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimed Batman Begins with an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies like Spider-Man 2 and Iron Man because of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knight is a film for the ages. --David Horiuchi

About the best blu ray out there for picture .
#2
VERY tempted, but already have the dvd, and that'll have to do.
Anyone doing the Joker will have to copy Heath Ledger now, not Caesar Romero

It's one of them films that imo is worth the upgrade from dvd, as there is a big big difference in picture and sound .

Definitely worth the upgrade :)

Is anyone else getting the feeling that these price drops on The Dark Knight / The Hangover are going to be part of a Play and Amazon sale on Friday, for the first of the month? :)
I'm kinda tempted by The Hangover, but I'm thinking there could be some better offers on on Friday, and think I probably ought to save my money 'til then :p
#5
The picture when it pops in to the IMAX sections is quite something! Definitely worth the upgrade.

Bought, this website costs me a fortune!

Funny the difference 20p can make. When the same blu ray was posted yesterday at £ 7.19 it got to -155 degrees.

Yes but the price is the price at the end of the day.

i'm not disagreeing, just saying why it probably went cold.

Saw this at the BFI IMAX in London Waterloo on Sunday night - one of the very best cinema experiences of my life!!! Especially the amazing IMAX sections which were HUGE!!!! Christopher Nolan is a genius...

A genius indeed - and woefully ingnored at the Oscars this year - Should at least had a nomination for Inception!!! Roll on Dark Knight Rises!!!

Definitely felt that Inception should have got more nominations, and more awards, than it did!
It was by far one of the best movies of last year.

And I really can't wait for The Dark Knight Rises either!!
#15
Is the picture better on this or inception?
#16
Great film / blu-ray!

In my opinion it is far better on this (Dark Knight). As others have mentioned too, when it switches to the IMAX sequences (you know when because it goes full screen with no letterboxing), the clarity is just incredible.
#18
Voted hot but I heard there's problems with the aspect ratio. Does this affect the film much?
#19
I was worried about that before I watched it, but you don't really notice after a while. There are a couple of times when it changes for one shot which can be a bit distracting, but then there are whole scenes which are in the IMAX ratio and it looks great!
#20
Dark Knight looks great on Blu-ray. But there are a lot that are better, that is to say, it's not "about the best blu-ray out there for picture" - quite a number ahead of it. It is definitely better than Inception though, in terms of PQ.

DEAL OF THE MILLENNIUM.... Or not, but still, this and Inception - best films ever. So this is one HELLA deal.
#22
Have some heat for the good deal!

...have to disagree about Inception being such a 'good' film...it was the worst film I saw last year...dream within a dream within a dream...what crap...so overrated...and just how long did that space cruiser type van they were in at the end take to go over the bridge?...what a pile of....

This is a prime example of where the "deal" is actually the voucher code. I get really p*ssed off when a voucher code is posted and then we get dozens of deals posted - it's enough to just have the code for crying out loud.

No, I was referring to the previous comment about why the Bee.com deal was voted cold even though it was cheaper than the Amazon deal. And my response was that it was voted cold because people are sick to death of multiple posts whenever a voucher is posted.

Have removed Play from the title, as they have put it up by £2 in their April Fools sale!
