Unfortunately everything but the artbook is a digital download. Really takes away from a "limited edition".

I love shopto and think that they're one of the best online retailers, who consistently deliver faster than most IMO. However, for special editions and box sets etc their packaging isn't that great. Just a heads up for any collector's who don't want a crushed/dented box etc. Heat added for the price though.

The soundtrack was a physical disc when I bought mine. Only the guide book is missing (but is available as a download).

Prepare to die edition on Steam.

Apparently it's better than the console versions by all accounts.

Hot deal OP

Loved this game

I heard that Dark Souls for PC is a port, and that the devs are having a very hard time porting the game over. Hopefully it doesn't suck, I'm not getting my hopes up!

I expect it'll be a game for PC that requires a gamepad to play properly

I could not give 2 **** about that...

but if theres a fps cap and poor graphics, then no thanks.
#11
actually they did say it would be a straight port with no extra bits added it's locked at 30fps and supposedly very few if any graphical options are added... it will use gfwl.

Where have ya heard that? Supposedly it's strictly just a straight up port and won't even be optimized.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/06/07/dark-souls-will-not-be-optimised-for-pc-%E2%80%9Cstrictly-a-port-from-the-console-version%E2%80%9D/

Anyone who pre-orders it is stupid IMO. Console games are made to draw more power from the CPU, which is why a lot of the bad ports run terribly/only use one core. GTA IV is a perfect example...
#14
gfwl is a huge issue for a lot of pc gamers, it's caused a lot of save issues eg arkham city lots of times corrupted updates servers not accepting legit cd keys, and even worse region locked so those in certain countries have no option but to pirate the game due to gfwl.
#15
Is it possible someone will find out a way to get around the frame rate thning? i know that might sound silly...
#16
Damn not such deal for PS3 users.

Rang Shopto to ask if they would be doing the same deal for PS3 users. It depends on getting a deal with the suppliers.

Not me mate, I wouldn't buy this game even with someone else's money, it's basically virtual sado-masochism.

I actually have no real issues with GFWL though, I've been using on the Fallout 3 GOTY and it seems to work fine and is definitely preferable to the likes of SecureROM.

Unfortunately, the fps cap has been confirmed.

I thought the petition against GFWL had worked?

It's a shame about the frame cap though, presumably it's at 30 and not 60 lol.
Guess there is a small chance the modders will find a way to remove it.

It's starting to look like resolution will be the only benefit, shame it will be polluted by vomit inducing textures.
No doubt it will be 16:9 only too...
#20
think gfwl is needed for the netcode, but it's like gta iv on steam but gfwl too, i think the cap can be circumvented like in la noire but it creates performance problems and graphical issues.... i wish more games supported 16:10 resolutions as i love that aspect ratio!

No, only the guide is a digital download. This is what you actually, physically get -

http://is01.thegumtree.com/image/big/137108729.jpg

Most of the content is 'real' - behind the scenes, soundtrack and artbook are all physical copies.

The Shopto webpage states that contents include:
Dark Souls the videogame
Video Game Soundtrack
Exclusive Artbook
Making-of DVD
The ‘Mini’ game guide (via download)

So again, only the game guide is mentioned as being a download, and also see the unboxing video at the top of the page where you can see all of the physical content, and it shows the CDs are stored in the artbook.

I think we should consider the glass half full on this game - its not usual for me to condone a half assed port but this game would never have come to windows if it was not for the fans asking for it, and the devs have responded.

I really hope it is a success, if it makes money, more games may come to pc, and with pc planned as a platform from day one you can hope for a better port than this one.

I also think it is a breath of fresh air for the devs to be so honest about it and not trying to hide the fact.

Sure I am dissapointed it sounds like a poor port, but I personally am prepared to let them off this time. should say dark souls 2 come out in the future however I would not be so soft.

Definite purchase for me, albeit not day one. I have held off not getting for xbox this long, i can wait another few months to get on pc.

edit, oops sorry this thread isnt even for the pc version, sorry OP.

I feel you. Almost every time package is crushed. Not too good for limited/collectors editions.
Price is good though, heated.

Cracking deal - bought, and despatched already

Probably won't play it for months, but couldn't pass up the LE at this price

30fps.... great, I'll enjoy playing Blighttown - it was a slideshow on consoles.
#27
This is the day one edition.. so it includes all the soundtrack, making of dvd and artbook.

Lots of misinformation from the bad translations in this thread in regards to the pc version.

The following have all been confirmed in the past month:

Moderate system requirements
Unlocked resolution
Unlocked framerate
Anti-aliasing option
Mouse/kb and gamepad support

The texture files however will be the same as the console version and not made available in any higher quality.

It has also been confirmed by the devs to perform better on the PC than it did on the consoles.

Heat added ... same price for Batman Arkham City ... nice :)

Took the plunge - I'm sure I'm going to hate myself when I start playing it :(

Anyone know what the best starting class is for a newb, post patch? I recall reading the Pyromancer was previously overpowered then heavily nerfed when the game was patched.

Just wondering what the best is now?
#34
My local Asda (Stenhousemuir) had the PS3 version of this for £15 in a game sale bin - sure there are still some left on the off chance anyone local to me is interested.

Took a punt on it - not really fussy about the art book and stuff but I'm enjoying the game more than I expected to. Reminds me a lot of some of the gaming experiences I had from the old SNES days - challenging, dying fairly, respawn and do it all over again until succeed.
#35
Heat added ... Thanks

Picked this game up recently - my god i'm addicted to it. Not spent this many hours on a game since I quit swtor.

Pyro is still pretty "up there" as far as the easier classes go. Settled on a sorcerer myself, one boss away from getting the "hide as a bush" spell so I can finally stop getting invaded all the damn time ;)

The Sorcerer would be my recommendation. You start with a ranged spell that does a very nice amount of damage to the first few bosses. You can't rely on it for ever but it gives you a head start.
#39
Cheers guys. I'll have a crack with Sorcerer, Wanderer and Pyro then and see which suits me best :)

Yeh Pyro was nerfed but he is still good. That is my main character. Just try to upgrade you Pyro skills as quick as you can. Also Pyro skills do not scale with certain character stats (you'll find out which ones)
