This is the complete 5 hour series of Das Boot. Its the most amazing account of World War 2 ever.

And on this day my thoughts go out to all the veterans out there and to those who aren't with us anymore. Thank You.

DAS BOOT is widely considered to be director Wolfgang Petersen's best film, but this mini-series edit presented as a feature length movie, is perhaps even more stunningly realistic in its portrayal of the cramped conditions aboard a German submarine.
Based on a novel by Lothar G. Buchheim, it is a striking example of an intelligent antiwar film clothed in the guise of a military thriller. In the midst of World War II, a German U-boat crew is sent out to patrol the Atlantic and fire at Allied ships bringing supplies to England. The submarine also carries a press correspondent, there to report from the front lines of nautical warfare. Meanwhile, the crew's captain (Jurgen Prochnow) is becoming disillusioned with the Nazi regime and with war in general. What starts out as a routine mission is soon livened up beyond the crew's expectations when their boat's surprise attack on a convoy is thwarted by a fast-moving destroyer. Battered by depth charges, the crew must pull together to survive the attacks of their unseen enemy.

Das Fruit , my favorite machine down at the Phoenix , Brilliant film probably in the top 5 war films/series ever made alongside Band Of Brothers , Platoon , Bridge over the River Kwai , Cross of Iron and The Great Escape ,

Thanks OP I already own the film but I'm going to pick up a copy for Fathers Day .

Yeah, those films aren't bad but i've just never really been able to get into those comic book style war films. The type where there's always one with a cigar wedged in his mouth that you know is going to make it most of the way through the film and there's also quite often an American soldier called Kowalski.

I have to say that three of the best war films that i've seen is that triple foreign boxset that is quite often going around on here. There's a Korean, Russian and French film and they're amazing.

If I left the screen with this on I wonder if the kids would take a hint for father's day!
Ref war films not sure if it's in the same category as The Longest Day etc but the one that does it for me is Schindler's List. Gott to rank as one of the best films ever let alne "war" films.

Brotherhood, 9th Company & Intimate Enemies are all great films but they all still have that big budget Hollywood feel to them, You just don't notice it as much because the're all foreign.
If you liked those 3 films try these if you've not seen them "The Battle of Algiers" "Rome, Open City" "Staligrad" and my all time favourite "Red Dawn":-D
