David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust 40th Anniversary 180g vinyl LP + 5.1 DVD only £14.06 (pre-order) delivered @ Amazon + Nectar

windhoekwindhoek

I just pre-ordered the Limited Edition Ziggy Stardust 40th Anniversary 180g vinyl album (with bonus DVD containing hi-res, multi-channel audio and bonus track content) for £14.06 delivered. This seems like an excellent price; especially as HMV are selling it for £28 and the recent Pink Floyd Immersion Boxset included tat for a premium price! Here's what you need to know about it:

Contents:
1) The 180g Vinyl 2012 Remaster has been mastered from the original 1/4" analogue tapes.
2) The DVD contains the following hi-res, multi-channel audio and bonus track content:
-----(i) a hi-res 2.0 2012 Remaster mastered from the original 1/4" analogue tapes,
-----(ii) 5.1 (DTS 48/24 + DD) and 2.0 (48/24 LPCM) mixes of the entire album,
-----(ii) four bonus tracks with 5.1 (DTS 48/24 + DD) and 2.0 (48/24 LPCM) mixes.

Other info:
1) There has been NO digital processing applied to either the LP or hi-res 2.0 DVD 2012 Remaster mixes.
2) The lo-res 5.1 and 2.0 DVD mixes are based on the 2003 SACD release.
3) The bonus tracks are Moonage Daydream (Instrumental), The Supermen, Velvet Goldmine and Sweet Head.
4) The DVD appears to be a regular DVD and not a DVD-A. If however, it is a DVD-A, then some, if not all of the content might not play on a DVD Player (or similar device) if it doesn't natively support DVD-A playback.
5) The CD release doesn't include a bonus DVD.
6) Amazon's release date is 4th June.

DAVID BOWIE 40TH ANNIVERSARY 2012 REMASTER OF ‘THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS’ RELEASE DATE: 1st JUNE 2012

CD AND VINYL/HI-RESOLUTION AUDIO & 5.1 MIX DVD EDITIONS

DVD (HI-RESOLUTION AUDIO & 5.1 MIX) INCLUDING PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED 5.1 MIX & STEREO BONUS TRACKS

EMI are excited to announce the release of a 40th anniversary edition of David Bowie’s truly groundbreaking and hugely influential album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars.

Originally released through RCA Victor on 6th June 1972, Ziggy Stardust was David Bowie’s fifth album, co-produced by Bowie and Ken Scott. Incredibly, the album was written whilst Bowie was recording 1971’s Hunky Dory album, with recording beginning a couple of months before that album’s release. It was recorded at Trident Studios, London between 8th November 1971 and 4th February 1972, with the line up: Mick Ronson (guitar, piano, backing vocals, string arrangements), Trevor Bolder (bass), Mick Woodmansey (drums), Rick Wakeman (keyboards) and backing vocals on ‘It Ain’t Easy’ by Dana Gillespie. As well as performing vocals, Bowie also played acoustic guitar, saxophone and harpsichord on the album and was involved in the arrangements too.

The album eventually peaked at #5 on the UK Album Chart on 22nd July having entered the chart at #15 on 1st July. Key to the album’s rise in the UK were the two TV performances of “Starman” on Granada TV’s Lift Off With Ayshea and nationally on the BBC’s Top Of The Pops. The album’s influence is immeasurable – it converted legions of fans, becoming the zeitgeist and a major influence on the next generation, particular those who were involved in the punk movement – musicians, artists, designers – and the subsequent re-birth of rock and pop.

Famously Bowie killed Ziggy at his peak at London’s Hammersmith Odeon, on July 3rd, 1973, though Ziggy Stardust’s influence was to redefine popular culture forever: pop music was never the same again.

This 40th anniversary edition has been remastered by original Trident Studios engineer Ray Staff (at London’s Air Studios). It will be available on CD and a special, limited edition format of vinyl featuring the new 2012 remaster with a 5.1 mix and high resolution audio on DVD – the DVD features previously unreleased 5.1 and stereo bonus 2003 Ken Scott mixes of Moonage Daydream (instrumental), The Supermen, Velvet Goldmine and Sweet Head.

    Bowie is a legend.

Nice find, heard the 5.1 mix from the last release (SACD I think) and it was really good. Bundled with the vinyl is a cracking deal for this price.

Yep, it's a fantastic price; especially compared to the recent Pink Floyd reissues which included tat in the Immersion Boxsets while the SACD release of Wish You Were Here cost £26+. For only £14.06, you get a 180g vinyl LP and DVD-A = bargain!

Difficult to pass by at that price. Pre-ordered!

    Great price thanks :)

I've been reading more about it on the web and it seems that the DVD 5.1 mix is the same as the 2002 SACD mix.

For those that like such trivia...the front cover was photographed on Heddon St (a small backwater rd off London's Regent st) the building with the lamp has now long gone (it's a restaurant), but the office window/skyline in the back of the photo are still pretty much the same.

Fancy voting a deal on this site 'cold' because you think the album is over-rated. It's people like you that ruin this place.

@Aleczandah...over-rated? Although not all tracks are top-shelf, there are many whose writing, imagery and passionate delivery haven't been matched since. Perhaps you just don't like music...anyway, personal taste is no reason to vote this cold - a good deal is a good deal. Voted hot, and ordered.

I voted cold because it's overpriced for what it is. Ziggy Stardust on any format isn't worth a quid.

I own every Bowie album and can confidently proclaim that ZS is amongst the worst. Vote stands.

You don't vote that way, I don't vote that way, but some people do vote that way, and whinging about it isn't going to change a thing. It just brings the tone down. It's people like you that ruin this place. Wind yer neck in, we know and we don't care.

Hot hot hot, awesome LP so many good moments though you will need good kit to appreciate the DVD-a and I'd go for the analog master of the original vinyl pressing over some new digital compressed master. To say its worth a £1 is crazy it's a bargain for £14, you could buy the o.g pressing in a charty shop for about this amount, that's a hot deal.

Brilliant deal! Bowies best album...What memories !Gotta get it on at full blast..Heat added and thanks op...

Wow, what a bargain!!! Not his greatest album, but still an absolute classic. I'd have paid this for the vinyl alone and still been happy. With a DVD, it's a must buy for me.

By the way, you also get a £1 credit to buy something from Amazon's mp3 store if you're in the UK and haven't already got it via a previous purchase. Nice one!

    Heat added!!! :)

    1972!
This album can still hold it's own in 2012.

    Ummm. What's a LP?

Voted hot because the sun is out and the sky is blue.
