There are bright lights in the sky, nearly the whole human race has been rendered blind and helpless, and sentient flesh-eating plants stalk the survivors in John Wyndham's futuristic chiller.

A new series of the Triffids is due out next year on the BBC. Good price for this old series.

I think so too, but already people are voting cold, even though it's the cheapest by about £2. Makes you wonder if there's any point posting!

Lot of cold posters against cheap dvds lately. Unless it was posted recently and they can't be bothered to let you know. I wonder if it's the bluray crowd. Hope not because I don't support the bluray format and am pretty disgusted by Sony's manipulation of the market but i'll still vote hot if it's a good deal. Matrix for example.

I don't think it's about blu ray vs dvd really. Just that DVD deals are just not worth mentioning any more as there are soooooooo many of them (yawn). What you find is someone finds a well known film for £2.99 and posts it and everybody votes it hot just cos they like the film.

The reality is though that DVD is on its way out and HiDef will be the future. Blu Ray is coming down in price and I personally won't be replacing my DVD collection until they fall a heck of a lot more. Hi def is worth a few pounds more not a tenner!

Having said that...TV shows are something worth buying on DVD as they don't have as much to gain (or nothing at all in some cases) of going to HiDef. Something like this is therefore hot IMO.

Hi def really isn't an issue unless you have a tv over 42" (uprated good quality DVD at that size isnt marginally different) , voting cold on DVD's because they have been superceded by minor quality isn't a good thing to do. Tbh downloads will be the next step leaving bluray floundering imo and the investment in DVDs will give at leat another 10 years of use imo. But not a discussion for here tbh.

This post was a good one for the knowledge it's out there and it's cheap, I hadn't looked to see if it was released and my posts would suggest I'm big on retro TV right now.

[edit] But you make a good point, so many DVDs. Maybe a new dvd + bluray forum would help?

Anything's possible on here!
I am one of the Blu-ray crowd, but I've still voted this one hot (cos it is).
An entire classic BBC series (which will, no doubt, be better than any shoddy remake) for £3.99; how can it possibly be cold

Well, I have voted hot it is a good deal. However, if you have fond memories of the day of the triffids then I suggest you don't buy this dvd :)

not voted myself but thats cheaper than chips ;)

I watched this when it was shown recently on BBC4 - it is a really good series, you just need to look through the dodgy SFX and slightly jumpy/disjointed story. The episodes in the city as it falls apart are great, really well done. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, really took me back to my youth :p

New items are always voted cold when they are first posted. Either some sad pillocks lurk in the forum voting everything cold just to wind up the posters, or there is some sort of glitch in the ratings system.

Take a look at how many first postings in threads are along the lines of 'why so many cold votes?' or 'if you're voting cold please say why'.

Ignore the first few votes, that's what I do. Moaning about them is pointless.:-D

Still £3.99

Anyone catch part 1 of the remake last night? - I thought it was excellent.
