The fourth feature from Shane Meadows (This Is England, A Room for Romeo Brass), one of the UKs most exciting directors, Dead Mans Shoes is a gritty yet fiercely moral tale of gangland retribution.

Two brothers return to the hometown they left eight years earlier, to find it still run by the same gang of small-time drug dealers and petty thugs. Their purpose, it soon becomes clear, is not reunion, but revenge a quest of particular significance for Richard (Paddy Considine Hot Fuzz, The Bourne Ultimatum), the leader of the two, whose obsessive desire to even the score will lead them into dangerous territory.

Evoking Get Carter in its avenging brother scenario and featuring an outstanding central performance from Considine (not to mention a cracking score featuring Bonnie Prince Billy and Aphex Twin), Dead Mans Shoes is Meadows finest film to date.

Amazing film, ordered.

British film making at its best.

I know it sounds like a cliche but it's got all the ingredients unique to a British movie and a great watch.
Love the scene with the guy flicking through the jazz mag and making observations to his mate.

Typical British humour throughout.

Are you more the "Rise of the Foot Soldier" kind of chap?

Fantastic film for so many reasons. The dialogue is first class, as real as it gets.

Paddy C's performance is one of the most remarkable I've ever seen.

Best film ever made is a bit of an overstatement, but it's a strange, atmospheric and genuinely unusual film, very well made on a low budget. It has that special 'something' that makes it a must see in my opinion and grows on you. I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion though.

Is it worth having on BluRay over DVD though?

Fair enough with all the you must buy this bluray but I already have this on dvd. What is the transfer like and is it worth upgrading, I'm thinking probably not at the moment but if anyone has a genuine review on the transfer?

I'm with you on that as well - it's certainly a decent film but people totally over-hype it unfortunately...it does have some very good moments.

As I've mentioned before regarding this film - I'd like to have seen a lot more violence in the revenge/retribution scenes

Or quite simply see the bar$tewards whimper a lot longer before putting them out of their pathetic misery...:w00t:
