Dear Esther (PC Download) - £1.74 @ Steam

KinanswerMeKinanswerMe

Couldn't see it posted, so thought I'd share.

Dear Esther isn't a game as such. It's more like a story or experience.

Difficult to explain but couldn't put it down like a good book when it first came out.

    Bought, cheers.

Fantastic experience wouldn't call it a game as such its more an interactive novel played out in a first person view, well worth £1.74

it's a wonderful.... thing? As Lebdude said it's not a exactly a game but well worth £1.70 for a wyrd and wonderful experience. though its rather like marmite your love it or hate it.

Is this any good then? I have to admit that it definitely looks like something I would be into, as you can probably tell from my avatar I'm really into 'different' sorts of games.

It's a great experience, not on the same level of Journey but it's close.

You see, now Journey was awesome, I'm just mentally debating whether to go for this deal though or wait for this game to hit a humble bundle (which is probably will at some point).

I picked it up yesterday. Sounds interestng, and these posetive comments are encouraging.
Looking forward to find time to play all these games Im buying lately!

    Seems a good deal :)

Indie, unconventional, cheap, and no guns. I've a strong feeling that I'm going to regret buying this one, but all the same *buys*

    Like the old game Myst?

I normally get bored fairly easily, but this held my attention!
Definitely worth it at this price.

For those who've not played it; you explore an island in first person view.
No guns, enemies, puzzles or anything, just walking around soaking up the story and atmosphere.

Don't buy into the hype it's crap. But for £1 odd it's not bad. I just need to figure out where to go as the game is full of invisible walls and I can't get off the bloody shore and with no mini map as such it can be frsurating to ay the least.

Not really, you have to do things in Myst which made it more of a game. With this you just walk around an island in a linear direction and the story unfolds as you do. There are no options to do anything though. It's like walking around Alcatraz with the audio headphones on. I spent the first five minutes trying to find my first puzzle until I realised it wasn't like Myst.

It's a typical 'innovative' indie game. Don't bother developing game mechanics and tack on some crappy abstract story.

That said probably worth a £1

    Is this the end screen?

    Voted hot.

At £6.99 it was probably a bit overpriced (for what you get)

I can't begrudge it too much though, as the cave sequence alone was fantastic, even in the ageing Source engine.
