Deckless MP3 Car Stereo for £19.99 Delivered @ Maplin

SyzableSyzable[mod]

Seems a great price for a car stereo. And with MP3's so popular i don't think not having a CD Unit will be an issue

USB or SD MP3 playback
FM RDS for best reception and station ID
Fully detachable panel with front auxiliary input
Easy to read white display
Blue colour illuminated buttons for easy use at night
DSP effects (Classic / POP / Rock / EQ off)
MP3 player with ID3 tag support for song, artist, album and file number display
Output power: 4 x 7W
PLL tuner with 24 preset stations - 18 x FM / 6 x MW
RCA / Phono line out
Standard ISO connector
If you are tired of using CDs in your car, this is the head unit for you. With the USB and SD sockets you can playback endless MP3 files, with no chance of them skipping - or use the 3.5mm stereo jack input for any other audio device. There is a built-in radio and DSP effects to improve the audio playback.

In my mind there is nothing wrong with the power output. I think there's a general (and intentional, on behalf of the vendors) misconception about 'power' and quality/volume. Twinned with some efficient speakers, this unit might get to between 90 and 100db per speaker. IIRC, normal conversation level is about 50-60db, and 100db is shouting in ear/car horn territory. In other words, the output is perfectly adequate provided you're not driving somehells-angel road-hog with a baked-bean tin exhaust. Manufacturers generally sell equipment based on power (either PMPO or RMS) because your average Joe equates that with quality and volume. In fact, although there is some truth there somewhere, it's not a good indication and you're better off with high-quality, low power equipment than some sh*te that pumps out 1000W but at terrible quality. That's what I think anyway. I did some audio engineering stuff back in the day and this is what I recall, so I may be slightly wide of the mark in a few of my figures...

Good spot, OP - have some heat

And as soemone pointed out, if you must have your rude-boy sounds, you can always feed the line out into your 3000W wideboy-o-matic amp taking up half of your Corsa's boot space!

You'd be better off playing the music on your phone speaker, like the yoofs do!

Aldi have / have had an mp3 car stereo on offer, worth a look rather than this.

If you search youtube for the model number (A36LA) there's a short video of a fella in a *really* untidy car listening to this stereo. The only comment there is that the FM reception may be poor but the actual volume of the unit via the Youtube clip sounds fine.

Either way, it's £20 and I desperately needed a replacement stereo, so this is perfect for me :-)

If I were to put a couple of X-Mi speakers in my car, each rated at 2.5w and turned them up to full then the sound would be deafening, so 4 x 7w is more than ample for any car.

    X) That's an understatement, the unit's worth more than than his car ;) cheers for the link though, reserved at local store.
