This seems to be a mis price as its showing £4.53 discount but the price was originally over £38.00.

Its 800MHz and at least you know it will work with your XPS 420 as many have commented on other brands not showing correctly.
Dell are charging £20 extra for 1GB of 667MHz memory when buying a system.

2GB 667MHz also available for the same price if matching up with your system current spec

Supercharge your Dell XPS 420 Desktop with a Dell Memory upgrade engineered, tested and customized for your system. Dell Memory is another great product from Dell high quality at an excellent price

Don't forget quidco for further discount!!

It's like the same with all the ram for each system.

Its not a miss price, Dell finally realised even premium ram brands were cheaper than them due to the sustained price crash of memory chips so finally they have decided to follow suit and lower prices.

Good deal , replacing my old RAM ought to help raise my pc base score from 5.4..probably will not make vista any better sadly...that would take a miracle.. :)

Sure i read somewhere you can get XP from microsoft if you have a problem with vista?

which of these modules would work in a inspiron 530? they all seem very system specific.

Not quite, if you have Vista Business or Ultimate and you have an XP CD plus an already activated license running on another PC, Microsoft will allow you to activate the same XP license/install on your Vista machine if you give them the Vista license.

That’s not what I’ve heard or done.
If you have Vista Business or Ultimate pre-installed the OEM supplier (Dell etc) will provide you with an XP Pro disc that you can install on the Vista machine. You don’t give up your Vista license so you can switch back to Vista in the future if you like. The Vista license in affect covers you for XP and in at least the case of Dell the XP Pro disc installs without requiring a product key or activation.
It’s a flexible arrangement although you aren’t officially licensed to dual boot the two operating systems although you can ignore that if you so choose.
