great price for the printer, terrible price for the printer food.
probably lucky to find replacement black plus colour carts leaving much change from £35.

But surely that sort of price is standard for a two ink machine (Black and colour cartridge)if you are going to buy original cartridges, Epson originals would be about £35 a full set for any lexmark would be about £55 for a colour and a black, and the same for HP blacks about £20 colours about £30...

The only way you would get cheaper would be using replacements which you can get for about £10 a cartridge

Dell, Lexmark and similar (Dell printers are usually clones) have notoriously difficult if not impossible to find reasonably-priced compatible carts.
Not a challenge: but if anybody can find some refs to compatibles for this model it would be very helpful to make the deal worthwhile.
Otherwise, only other cost-effective avenue would be refill - if actually possible and not limited by chips etc.

OK, genuine versus compatible cartridges has been debated many times before.
Don't want to spark any more of that debate.
As a possible alternative to the Dell, compare to a typical Epson all-in-one with similar spec and price, and with readily-available compatible carts from around £1 each.
Example
Epson SX200 from Argos at under £40.
Compatible and genuine Epson cartidges from around £1 each. (and typically equiv to £5 / set delivered from a well-known auction site)
Even allowing for the Epson model using total 5 carts (making them less wasteful than a multi-colour cart), the option to easily obtain comparatively ridiculously cheap compatibles is potentially overwhelming.

Given time the market will catch up and replacement cartridges will become available, 5 years ago you would struggle to get replacement cartridges for HP printers.....

Because I use mine for photography I only use genuine, other printers in the past I have used replacements and I have never had a an epson go past 18 months old without blocking.... I am using originals in my R1800 and I have never had a flicker of problems, but saying that a full set is over £100...
