Yep! Dont shoot then messenger though ;-) I like to keep members informed of all the pricing developements on Dells site, some offers are better than others. As you say some extra memory would be nice from Crucial though, not Dell at their prices!

Would this one still be a better deal that the one above mike? (including the upgrade to 3800 for £eighteen- I can see it has 160 MB of hard drive and a free printer but cant see any negatives, compared to the new one deal above in post 3.

Depends on how much you value the graphics card against integrated Mister.c

Remember these are value systems so wont have all the bells and whistles, extra drive space is easy to sort these days with usb drives if needed. They are also slim cases so not so easy to upgrade say the graphics if needed later.

do you know of any 'good' deals on full-size chassis machines Mike? I'm after one with Media Center as the O.S and dual-core, not bothered about all other bells and whistles though (i.e. hd, graphics etc.)

cheers and thanks again for all your scouting!

OK here are some (5) for you to look at in the full sized chassis with DCore and MCenter, they are also cheaper than QVC. Bear with me while I post them as it may take a few mins to get them all up.

The QVC price is one I cant get down to with 4yrs warranty and the external tv card, but I will say that if I were spending that sort of cash on a laptop I would want the following (assuming gaming use too) 2Ghz core2 duo cpu, Media center, 2gig ram, 7.200rpm hard drive, 1920x1200 screen, 256MB DDR3 nVidia GeForce Go 7900 graphics card ( guess the qvc one will be X1400) 9 Cell, 80Whr Lithium Ion Primary Battery, No tv card as its analogue.

That little lot will cost £1322 today with 1yr warranty 305-N11947 and configure from the base settings.

Thanks Mike - I hadnt spotted the difference in graphics card. It wasnt the extra 80GB that made me prefer the one I suggested, but I hadnt fathomed the graphics card difference, so couldnt see the value that the new option offered.

Graphics cards are something I've hardly investigated - I personally dont use the computer for gaming and my sister, who this system is going to be for, will not use the system for gaming, but for word, excel etc, as well as surfing. Does anyone know / have an opinion on the quality of the 'base' dell
Integrated nVidia® GeForce® 6150 LE graphics card, and whether or not it would be sufficient for a PC, where gaming is not going to be a real consideration.

Cheers
