Thanks Mike, I would advise peope to choose the vista counterpart though, instead of xp. I had a new laptop last weekend (HP Pavilion dv5231eu) and it has vista on it, and its really good, faster than XP, and the inteface looks amazing, all my apps and hardware work with it with no problems, and there has been no problems, I would reccommend it over XP anyday.

I'd advise against Vista and use XP. Vista utilises a lot of idle CPU and RAM just for their 30 security checks per second, increasing power consumption. I also participate in distributive computing, and run my own scientific programs for my work - and often lose performance under vista. Not to mention lack of gaming support of course...

At least wait for a few security updates and hole patches.

Sorry to hear that, but for general purposes vista seems to fit the bill perfectly, My machine has 1GB of ram, and background processes are using 200mb - 300mb of that, but everything else I use runs fine with 800megs of free RAM. Im really pleased with it, and the interface is fab, really like the aero glass look, and my fav game (sims 2 + all expansions to date) works great, on maximun settings.

I would get XP for now or you may find some of your hardware wont work in VISTA because of no drivers available and some never will be.

Wait for SP1 for VISTA.

Want a new laptop with XP and thanks to Mike we now have codes for this.

Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor T2060(1.6GHz/533MHz/1MB)
versus
AMD Turion TM 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-50

Trying to decide between a Dell Inspiron 6400 (£386 one year CAR warranty) and 1501 (£351 90 days CAR).

What are the benefits of the Intel over the AMD above, and what has the 6400 got other than this to make it worth buying?
